We all know us Gold Coasters are a pretty active bunch.
Whether it’s frequenting your local F45, pounding the pavement for a scenic jog, joining the rest of the population for a sunrise surf, or downward dogs in the sand— it’s always nice to follow it up with something that won’t counteract your hard work and helps to replenish you for the day ahead.
We’ve rounded up the best places for a refuel after a sweat sesh, no matter your post code. ‘Cause nobody wants to go through all that pain for no gain, right?
This superfood café exudes wholesome vibrations and you almost feel healthier simply by stepping foot in the door. The Shack‘s happy staff believe in flooding your body with nutrients and freeing you from refined sugar, grains and flours, nasty preservatives, and artificial flavours. Their green smoothies are as delicious as they are nutritious, plus they make their own sauces, fruit syrups, and spreads in house. It’s time to toss the soggy sandwiches for good and nab one of their takeaway lunch boxes which are nutritionally proportioned to perfection. There is nothing but goodness inside this small Nobby Beach setup and they totally cater for all of your wacky dietary needs.

Protein Shake Bar
Ladies don’t be put off by the name of this place—you won’t instantly “bulk up” if you frequent here and, fellas, this might become your new favourite go-to after the gym, just please wear a shirt! The smoothie menu has nifty symbols explaining the health benefits of each option, making your choice somewhat easier (or not) and if you’re a creature of habit, you can create your own. Protein Shake Bar prides itself on clean eating and also offers a plethora of different flavoured bowls, cold-pressed juices, healthy meals, and guilt-free sweet treats. With super cute branding and good looking people serving the goods, it’s totally acceptable to rock up here in your activewear… even if you’re pretending you’ve just hit the gym for leg day (we won’t tell).

If the endorphins from getting your body moving aren’t enough, then you must get your hands on a matcha green tea latte—a tea and coffee hybrid. Say whaaaaaat? It’s a relatively new brew taking the bean scene by storm, given it’s dosed with 170 times more antioxidants than green tea and a slow releasing caffeine hit to hinder that 3.30itis. Other quirky items on the Raw Espresso menu include pink pitaya bowls and tropical-coloured dragonfruit smoothies served in delightful mason jars; enough to make you feel like you’ve teleported to an exotic island, but with a plenty of additional vitamins and nutrients than your standard holiday drink of choice. The Arnie smoothie packs a punch with a whopping 20 gram of protein powder—once you try this one, we are positive you’ll be baaaack.

Bootleg Juice Bar
Bootleg Juice Bar is the place for your post-boot camp breakfast, open from 6am ‘til late. Boasting a custom-made cold pressed juicer, the beverages here are fresher than a daisy, have an enhanced flavour from the zero heating extraction process, and are the perfect accompaniment alongside one of their delectable raw doughnuts. Do-nut feel guilty! They are “raw” which means “healthy” #amiright? The Green Tommy Gun is a good go-to that’s full of spinach, so it won’t be long before you sport Popeye-style biceps. Healthy house is an understatement when it comes to Bootleg’s philosophy, with dairy free, gluten free, and vegan-friendly options there is a variety of choices for everyone. Winning!

Helen’s Heavenly Bulk Health Foods
Now Helen might just be an angel from heaven; supplying us with her specialty grocery items for close to 20 years on Burleigh’s fave street (she’s sure witnessed some changes!) and the first to stock the wonderful creation we have all learnt to love—acai. Stocking a range of spices, grains, flours, powders, and potions it’s no wonder she expanded to the shop next door. You can spend A LOT of time perusing the aisles at Helen’s Heavenly Bulk Health Foods, from every single vitamin and supplement under the sun, to organic and all-natural beauty and skincare, and the decadent chocolate-covered berries that always seem to call your name. One of only a few places on the Coast serving the latest and greatest CocoWhip (a vegan-friendly coconut soft serve alternative to yoghurt and ice cream)—this is definitely your new guilt-free obsession with even more nutrients than the beloved acai bowl. Get in line, folks!
