We know that when we say “burgers”, majority of you invariably think of a big, juicy meat pattie, potentially dripping with cheese, or crispy, deep-fried chicken, possibly topped with bacon and slaw.
And, believe us, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, we like to be progressive and sometimes take part in meat-free Mondays, so we also know that a burger WITHOUT meat can still be a damn good burger.
Need more convincing? Keep reading, as we rave about some of the best vegetarian burgers on the Gold Coast.
Chevron Island’s own little slice of New York City, Tribeca NYC are all over this American food biz (have you tried their mac n cheese?!) and when it comes to burgers, they really shine. The Brooklyn Hipster is their vego option and comes with a delish hand-pressed sweet potato and lentil pattie, lettuce, tomato, avo, American cheese, onion, and aioli and is served on a brioche bun (man bun optional).

Mandala Organic Arts Café
The vegetarian wizards at this gem of a Mermaid spot make EVERYTHING taste good sans meat and their burgers are no exception. Our fave is Mandala‘s Brunch Burger; think: organic sourdough bread roll, grilled organic smoked tofu, avocado, tomato, smoky coconut “bacon”, spinach, chunky pesto, aioli, and chilli jam. Hell yeah!
Where: 4/2558 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach
The Loose Moose
The Loose Moose is a brand spankin’ new American-style establishment that’s already got everyone talking and you just know there’s a banger of a vegetarian burger option available. Try the quinoa, carrot, and sweet potato pattie, topped with onion, tomato, crisp lettuce, whipped goat’s curd, plus chili and lime jam. Very nice. Wash it down with one (or three?) of their 120 different whiskies on offer. Serious business.
Where: 75 Surf Parade, Broadbeach
The Good Wolf
Your Friday night takeaway is sorted thanks to The Good Wolf in Miami. Featuring a “Good Wolf” and “Bad Wolf” menu, these guys have got you sorted whether it’s cheat day or if you’re trying to keep yourself in check. Try the Falafel Burger (on the Good Wolf menu, hurrah!) with homemade falafel with hummus, tomato, onion, spinach, and red pepper relish. One of the best vegetarian burgers on the Gold Coast, fo’ sho!
Where: 3/110 Mountain View Avenue, Miami
One of our favourite spots for some American grub, Brooklyn Depot also does a mean vego burger. The Fun Guy Burger comes with crumbed mushroom, oak leaf lettuce, blue cheese sauce, caramelised onions, fresh tomato, and honey mustard aioli and it’s good, damn good. While nothing beats the real thing, pretend you’re in Canada and grab some of their steaming poutine too, eh!
Where: 4217/10 Beach Road, Surfers Paradise
The guys at Magic Apple are serious about their vegetarian menu; you’ll be spoilt for choice and won’t be disappointed. You can design your own delish burger: choose your bread, salad toppings, sauces, and between a variety of vego fillings including char-grilled tofu steaks, falafel balls, protein patties (made with brown rice, ground peanuts, carrot, sunflower seeds, and garlic), garden patties (made with vegies, lentils, seeds, and spices) or char-grilled eggplant. You’ll be happy to go meat-free every day of the week!
Where: 1957 Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh Heads
The Mac Burger Pro is Ze Pickle’s vego option and you definitely won’t be missing the meat with a grilled mushroom coated in garlic butter, fried cheese sticks (our favourite!), guacamole, their famous ZP sauce, plus optional jalapenos and corn chips (the obvious option being “yes please”) to wrap your chops around.
Where: Corner Connor Street & Park Avenue, Burleigh Heads
Kirra’s excellent Burger Lounge has three vego burgers on offer but our favourite is the Trippin Hippie—a garlic-roasted mushroom stuffed with roasted butternut pumpkin and basil, with rocket, tomato, relish, and blue cheese sauce. One of the best vegetarian burgers on the Gold Coast that definitely won’t leave you asking “Yo Goober! Where’s the meat?!”
Where: 6b/1 Douglas Street, Kirra
House of Brews
One of our favourite spots in Surfers to grab a sneaky ale (over 30 on tap!) is House of Brews. Their huge, delicious, often hilarious menu (a parmigiana called Parmagedon? Stop it.) is well worth a look and the vegetarian burger is well worth a try—with its roasted pumpkin and quinoa veggie pattie, rocket, sweet potato fries, beer-braised onions, and truffle cheese sauce. #mmmtrufflecheesesauce
