5 New Spots You Need To Know About

If you love nothing more than taking your in-the-know toosh along to the latest and greatest additions to the Coast, then you’d be forgiven for thinking it has felt a little like Christmas this past year or so.

Crazy thing is, this list could easily be doubled, ‘cause there’s plenty more gems beckoning from our whiteboard at Metropolist HQ, but we don’t want to overload you all at once.

Stay busy ticking off your Gold Coast bucket list in the meantime, just keep these five epic newcomers on your radar as they swing open their doors in the days and weeks ahead.

Cardamom Pod | Ferry Road Markets

Vegetarians unite! One of the Gold Coast’s most-adored vego restaurants is set to expand to a second venue, opening its doors THIS WEEK in Southport’s swanky Ferry Road Markets complex. Born from an overwhelming demand for their weekend breakfast in Broadbeach, the classy new Brickworks eatery will open daily from 7:30am (gasp!) serving both breakfast and lunch. So you can get your fix of Cardamom Pod’s raw peanut butter and jelly smoothie bowls, Insta-worthy acai and pink pitaya bowls, health beneficial smoothies, fresh juices, raw desserts, meat-free savoury creations, and oh-so-much-more in the plant-based department. Regardless if you’re vegetarian or otherwise, if you appreciate fresh ingredients, creativity, and food with passion, this place has your name written all over it. #foodporn

Jimmy Wah’s | Burleigh Heads

One of your fave neighbourhoods for eating, drinking, and general good times will soon be adding a new heavyweight to its resume. Dishing up fresh and contemporary Vietnamese street food, Jimmy Wah’s is only weeks away from opening in Burleigh Heads, and us pho-lovers can hardly wait. Jimmy Wah’s will occupy a prime real estate possie a few doors up from Justin Lane, so prepare to follow your nose, with fragrant aromas soon to be wafting street-side in Burleigh.

Black Hops Brewery | Burleigh Heads

If you’ve been hiding under a rock, then you might not have noticed the Gold Coast craft beer scene is literally on fire. First we were blessed with the glorious new offering of Burleigh Brewing 2.0, then our home-grown surfing pros poured love back to their fans delivering us the sexy brewery that is Balter HQ. And, VERY SOON, the final piece in the puzzle for 2016 will see the opening of the much-anticipated Black Hops Brewery in Burleigh Heads. We love these guys ‘cause they’re just everyday blokes with a dream, which they’ve worked their guts out to bring to fruition. With Black Hops’ brews pouring on taps for well over a year now, the fellas can’t wait to unveil their new baby to all their loyal supporters. The brewery’s cellar door will be super intimate, accommodating a handful of people at a time, and will be open for takeaway off-sales and tastings. Watch this space folks, ‘cause the wait is almost over!

Laneway Bar and Dining | Coolangatta

Another locally-raised ex-pro surfer is investing good faith in the Gold Coast’s burgeoning hospitality scene by establishing a smokin’ new cocktail bar and restaurant in Cooly. Trudy Todd, who spent an incredible 13 years on the women’s World Championship Tour has teamed up with friends and is days away from opening Laneway Bar and Dining on Griffith Street, behind The Strand. Expect a sharp fit-out with wood finishings throughout, polished concrete floors, recycled industrial elements, Asian street art, and a menu of flavours that’ll take you around the world and back again.

Society of Florida | Florida Gardens

We helped break news of this development a few months back, and we think you literally wet your pants with excitement. No judgement, so did we! The boys from Burleigh Social have been teasing us with updates of their new venture, Society of Florida, including the uber cool fit-out happening inside a long-vacant corner store in Florida Gardens. Now, anyone who knows the location will agree it’s totally tucked away in the ‘burbs and will take some serious hunting down on the first attempt. But these crafty guys know what pushes the buttons of us GC locals, so our expectations are sitting somewhere through the roof. Not long now peeps, and you know we’ll be all over it when it happens.

Have you got your finger on the pulse? If you hear of other new developments on the grapevine, we want to know about it. Drop us an email:
