You’d be hard pressed to find a GC local who hadn’t spent their lazy Sundays soaking up the sunshine at popular watering hole Nobby’s Arc. Who hasn’t found themselves elbow deep in one of their epic pizzas and throwing back cocktails like tomorrow’s hangover will never happen? Guilty as charged right here! So, when we found out the Nobby Beach institution had been sold we were naturally devastated, but we have some very, very good news to share.
Nobby’s Arc is BACK and she’s had an epic makeover. Say hello to The Arc, you’re going to love her.
The new owners are none other than sisters Shonel Alloway and Kylie Simpson, who also own cute-as-a-button Forreal Kitchen located just next door. In 10 short days the duo and their crew gave The Arc a total facelift and the results are seriously impressive. The space is now a moody and eclectic haven with dark, textured walls, swanky velvet lounges, an uber-sexy bar and neon signs just begging for an Insta snap.
Now let’s talk about the important stuff…the food! The menu, much like the interior, has had a complete overhaul and is packed full of drool-worthy eats.
Made up of tapas and larger-style plates, there’s something for everyone. Need some nibbles to go with your cocktails? Our tip is to try the beef cheek wontons, bone marrow croquette bites or garlic prawns with stone baked bread. Or make a meal out of it, literally, with their buxom burgers. Try the Michelangelo with a pressed beef patty, pizza pocket (yes, you read that right) American cheese and The Arc ketchup. It’s a two-hander that’s for sure.
Large plates on offer include Cantonese style beef short rib with citrus mayo and pickled red cabbage and spiced, braised pork belly with maple jus. And you can’t go past their loaded waffle fries. The Terminator comes with pepperoni, spring onion, BBQ sauce and gooey cheese. Drool! And sweet tooths will enjoy their fondue with bacon, cookie dough, pretzels and marshmallows. Yea, bring your stretchy pants ppl.
Tipple-wise, punters will be pleased with their epic cocktail list, including delights like the Butt Naked (caramel vodka, caramel sauce, salt flakes and milk), the The Arc Froze (shiraz, pomegranate liqueur, fireball, cinnamon and raspberry sugar syrup) and Movie Night (666 butter vodka, kahlua, popcorn syrup with espresso). For those who appreciate the simpler things in life, there’s local, craft and international beers and wines aplenty.
For those who are still holding Nobby’s Arc close to their heart, never fear, there are elements of the old gal here. The friendly, front of house staff remain as does their commitment to supporting local musicians and featuring world-class DJs. The Arc will hold comedy nights every Wednesday and there is still happy hour and daily meal deals—YAS! And you can continue your weekly pilgrimage for their epic Sunday sessions with live music from 3pm, $15 pizzas and $12 burgers—now that’s the perfect way to round out the weekend.
