Hermiz Salon
Richmond has just acquired one of Melbourne’s most in-demand hair salons, and we’re not mad about it.
Harper & Blohm
Olivia Sutton opened her highly acclaimed specialty cheese shop, Harper & Blohm, in 2014 to share her love of cheese with Melbournians. Named after the maiden names of her grandparents, Merle Harper and Mona Blohm, the shop was originally located in Essendon, but as of November 2018 has found a new home on Sydney Road in Brunswick.
Tora
Everyone knows High Street is blue-chip restaurant real estate, but this must be right on the edge of Windsor. Tora isn’t scrapping for business with all the other eateries down near Chapel St. Nope. Owner Daniel Liao is breathing fresh air up here—there’s only Small Print Pizza, Mount Erica Hotel and good old Lemnos Tavern to worry about.
Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co.
You will be hard pressed to find something more satisfying than a classic Betty's Burger washed down with an extra thick chocolate peanut butter shake. And now the good people of Windsor can enjoy it too, because the wildly popular Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co. have just rolled out a location on Melbourne’s Chapel Street.

Sweet Street Desserts
The Melbourne dessert plains are fraught with aggressively sweet competition. And one of its chief contenders doesn’t even have a permanent location yet. But don’t let that minor factoid deter you—these guys make some pretty mean sweet treats.
Hotel Esplanade
Simply put, there is no other pub like the Espy. St Kilda’s Hotel Esplanade has been an iconic establishment of the area since its inception in 1878.
ISH
Do you get it? This place is Indian-ish. It’s sort of Indian. Almost Indian. A kind of modern subcontinent cuisine swizzled with a bit of Fitzroy.

Plant-based eaters rejoice—Weirdoughs is here to satisfy your sugar cravings with desserts and pastries that aren’t sugar/gluten/nut/fun free.

Step inside Tavlin’s new location and it’s not hard to see why it’s already buzzing. The easy-going vibe is welcoming and the fit out, by none other than Studio Y, is elite.
The Hamptons Bakery
The Hampton’s Bakery has a simple approach towards hospitality—great food, great coffee and great service. Sounds like it’s right up our alley.

House Of Correction
House Of Corrections is a tiny but mighty small bar in Melbourne’s CBD with an interesting history, to say the least. The building has been home to a medical supplies store that stocked human skeletons and death masks, it held prisoners when the old Melbourne Gaol was full, and, most recently, it was a porn cinema aptly named Shaft Cinemas—among other weird and whacky things.
Wa Kenbo
If you’re looking for some elite Japanese food, look no further than Wa Kenbo, the newly opened Japanese fusion restaurant in Fitzroy from Chef Kenji.
Grand Lafayette
The team that brought you Port Melbourne’s Café Lafayette (RIP) just dropped a new venue. It's bigger, more ambitious, and it's about to take Prahran by storm. Welcome Grand Lafayette.
The Tote
If you’ve never heard of The Tote, we’re guessing you might not be from around here. Built back in the 19th century, and carrying its name since 1876, The Tote is now just part of the furniture in Collingwood.

When Sandra Foti entered the gelato business in 2016, people thought she was “crazy” for wanting to make gelato the same way it was done 100 years ago, right down to the hand squeezed lemons and roasted pistachios.
Harper
We were pretty devo when Mexican eatery Queen Of The South closed down in 2017. Especially since they’d opened a secret gin speakeasy literally the week before. The space remained vacant for a while, as spaces tend to do in Prahran, hunting for the right tenant.
Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq
Archie Brothers smacks all your senses at once with a giant, novelty hammer. Seriously, once our hearts stop defibrillating, we’ll need time to just absorb everything going on in there.
Act Of Wine
Slowly but surely, Southbank is beginning to get cool. It’s going to take some time—there’s a lot of crappy venues and soulless apartment blocks to overcome—but at least there’s now somewhere to get a decent bottle of plonk.
Hero Sandwich House
We’re simple folk, here. Give us a sandwich shop with some swagger and we’ll line up for hours. Good thing one just opened up around the corner. Expect us to be dropping a LOT of lunch money at Hero Sandwich House over summer.
Geddes Lane Ballroom
It’s certainly a weird recipe. Take Melbourne’s most famous chef and one property magnate, inject them into an old strip club and add a couple of smoke machines. Congrats, you just built Geddes Lane Ballroom (GLB)

Belles Hot Chicken | CBD
After selling out of chicken on their first day at their original Fitzroy store, it wasn’t long before Belles needed a second home. The CBD store, much like the one on Gertrude Street, has a cosy and warm feel, with food just as comforting. Similar to the original Belles' headquarters there are comfy chairs and booths that you sink into and enjoy the famed chicken. However, the Elizabeth Street operation has a slightly darker and almost late-night diner feel to it, fitting in perfectly with the city scene.

It was quite a shock seeing The Rogue Squire for the first time. It’s sitting on a very famous corner spot—the old Wheeler’s Hill Hotel, where 19-year-olds have been lining up for garage band gigs for decades (if it’s any consolation, The Wheeler’s pokies and sports bar still exists next door).
Half Acre
We’ll be honest, we drove straight past Half Acre the first time. And the second time too, as a matter of fact. Eventually we had to get out, walk up to the nondescript brick wall and poke our heads through the arched entrance.
Pembroke Bar & Kitchen
Surrey Hills might be a sleepy, cardigan-wearing kind of neighbourhood, but damn there’s some good spots to eat (if you know what you’re looking for).
Rice Paper Sister
Whether it’s five-course fine dining or a late-night burger and fries, it goes without saying that a laneway feed is quintessentially Melbourne.
Piatella
It was during their travels through Europe that Bill and Aspa Bourgazas fell in love with the feeling. You know, when you bite into something and the taste is so delicious it makes you wonder ‘Where the heck has this been all my life?’ Yeah, that feeling.
Lune Croissanterie | CBD
We try not to fanboy too hard at these things, but meeting Lune founder, Kate Reid, in her new CBD croissanterie...we’re fighting an urge to bow and curtsy.
