The Lobby Cucina & Bar is a new sneaky (and slick) restaurant slash bar in Lilyfield, that’s so sneaky we’re only just finding out about it now. This is exactly the kind of place you want to hide on cold nights and drink on hot days, it’s tucked away on the ground floor at Le Montage and take it from one cocktail tragic to another, it’s well worth stopping by.
Joe’s Table
Darlinghurst has welcomed a new restaurant to its ranks and we’re talking about Joe’s Table, where you’ll find deliciously tasty lunch and dinners with a South East Asian influence. The owner Joe Kitsana is the former chef of Longrain and Phamish, a huge hint that Joe’s Table is going to be a knock out.
Acai Brothers
Acai Brothers is the only place to head for all of the acai bowls you can handle. A passion project by two brothers (well, from other mothers, but you get it) who swear that acai is the secret behind their past lives as athletes. Yup, this place is definitely delivering the goods when it comes to acai—do you need us to say it one more time? You get it.
Bay Vista Dessert Bar
Bay Vista Dessert Bar is south Sydney’s answer to ridiculous desserts and now it’s headed for the west. This place has it all. No really, the menu goes on for days (near enough anyway). Yes, they serve traditional desserts (think Cannoli, log cake, and banana split) but the fun doesn’t stop there.

WyNo
The team behind one of Sydney’s most institutional restaurants, Porteno, have gone and done it again. They’ve just thrown the doors open to a brand new wine bar and wine shop in Surry Hills right behind their flagship restaurant and true to form, it’s an absolute winner.
Gurdys
King Street has welcomed its newest bar to the ranks of every-growing winners, Gurdys, and the warm and fuzzies are coming in very strong at this one. Drinks are what owners, Clare and Brett Davis, know best and they’ve channelled their decades of industry experience into a bomb cocktail menu, with each one served in vintage cut glasses.
Cuckoo Callay
If, like us, bacon is life then you’ll be pretty damn happy to hear that the same masterminds who brought you the ridiculously good bacon festival earlier this year have set up camp on Crown Street in Surry Hills. FYI, their bacon goodness has come along for the ride too (obviously).
Dainty Sichuan
Melbourne’s fave spicy noodle spot, Dainty Sichuan, has finally opened its doors in Sydney’s World Square. Lovers of all things Sichuan and spice will want to get their hands on the signature Chongqing noodles, which feature traditional ramen noodles, fresh bok choy and the intensely flavourful but mouth-numbing chicken chilli broth. FYI, the burning sensation comes from the Sichuan pepper, and not the actual chilli. You’ve been warned—this one is not for the faint hearted.
Nudefish
The legends behind your favourite beachfront bar, Bucket List, have just opened a poké bowl shop in Greenwood Plaza and you can consider your daily work lunch #sorted. Poké has well and truly stolen our hearts this year and we don’t even care if it’s the middle of winter—this is where we’re heading for healthy lunches on the daily.
China Diner | Double Bay
China Diner has been a mainstay on the Bondi food scene since 2014 and now they’ve moved slightly (yes, only slightly) closer to the city, setting up shop in Double Bay. The fit out is comfortable with an American diner feel—from the sprawling cocktail bar where you can sit and watch the cocktail magic happen, to the cosy booths designed for really settling in.
Morley Eats
Wake up dreaming of pizza? Rosebery’s latest Lebanese-style brunch spot has got you covered. These guys are serving up the breakfast of champions and yes, we are talking about pizza. Baked in their own pizza oven and topped with everything from smoked salmon to kale pesto to mushroom, chorizo, and even fattoush, these are breakfast pizzas and we’ll take any excuse to have pizza before noon.
Kin & Kind
Kin & Kind is the home of Sydney’s best workshops for parents, with classes that’ll feed your creativity (hello indoor gardening), your belly (hit up the kimchi workshop) or teaches you how to master the art of the perfect phone-shot movie. Founders Miriam and Josie are the brains behind this genius operation, offering a dynamic alternative to the standard child-focused activities on offer.

ICYMI birthday cards are so 2016; now the only way to celebrate another spin around the sun is with a big ol’ cake delivered direct to your door.
Small Talk Coffee & Snacks
Good company and phenomenal coffee are what Small Talk Coffee in Dulwich Hill is all about—so far it’s obviously ticking all of our boxes. Owner Samuel Terrey has created a chilled space where you can pop in for friendly vibes and damn good coffee—the beans are by local coffee wizards, Reuben Hills FYI. The focus here is on simplicity, so the coffee and food are the real stars of the show at Small Talk Coffee. Exposed brick walls, plain monochrome tiles and a black and white aesthetic give this place a minimalist feel, which we love.
The Glasshouse
They sure know how to mix a G&T at The Glasshouse. And of course they do—it’s a dedicated gin bar, gosh darn it, with over 25 gins from around the world, and specialist gin bartenders on hand to tailor your gin cocktail to your taste. Oh, and did we mention it’s on a rooftop overlooking Manly Beach?
Vrai Health
There’s so much more to #wellness than goodness bowls and green juices. Known for their ah-mazing yoga and Pilates classes, Body Mind Life has just opened Vrai Health, introducing Sydneysiders to the HCO approach to health—that’s hot, cold, and oxygen—ICYMI (don’t worry, we’ll forgive you for that one). Always up for trying new things, that’s just how we roll guys; we headed on down to Surry Hills to give Vrai Health a road test, all in the name of research.
Paper Bird
Redfern locals, Moon Park are changing things up, with a new name—Paper Bird—and a new home in Potts Point. You can hit this one up for Japanese, Taiwanese, Chinese and Korean-inspired food, so yes, this will sit very firmly in the Asian fusion camp (and we’re okay with it).
Marta
Rushcutters Bay, it’s time to prepare yourself for a newcomer, Marta, set to open mid-September. Marta will be a refined Roman restaurant, emerging in Popolo’s former premises (which is relocating to the CBD—don’t panic) where designers will create a seamless indoor and outdoor, communal yet intimate dining space. Popolo’s own Flavio Carnevale says the space will embody the energy and theatre of the famous drinking holes in Rome and we very much like the sound of that.
Wild Sage
One of the Northside’s favourite cafes is opening up shop in Barangaroo and yes, this is where you’ll be heading for your morning coffee and business meetings from now on. If their first outpost is anything to go by, then the plates coming over the pass will be piled high with fresher-than-fresh breakfast fare, hearty lunch time eats and will up your insta game immediately. You'll also be able to head here after work for dinner and cocktails because they really do it all.
Fountain Potts Point

Banh mi oh my, a DIY banh mi store has opened its doors in Burwood and if you’re the kind of person who loves a little bit of everything on your roll, this one’s for you.
Cook & Archies
Cook & Archies is one of Surry Hills’ best-kept secrets. Tucked away just off Devonshire Street, this trendy eatery is loved by locals for good reason.
The Barre Project
Lovers of extreme exercise and anything that involves HIIT (that’s high-intensity interval training), listen up, because we’ve just found your new favourite thing. The Barre Project has hit the Sydney CBD and if you’re not familiar with what barre actually is, well, you’re about to be.
4 Ounces Burger Co
4 Ounces Burger Co has just opened in Alexandria and take it from us, they’ve taken the burger game to a whole new level, and everything here is RnB themed (literally everything). From the graffiti-esque wall art to the names of burgers themselves, and of course the background music—is it too soon to use the words ‘whole new level’ again?
Jade Temple
Inspired by both modern and traditional Chinese culture, Jade Temple is Neil Perry’s latest outpost and is the sister venue to Sydney fave, Spice Temple. The interiors include two giant cast-iron lion statues (and we do mean giant) standing guard at the entrance, traditional bamboo screens throughout, and live fish tanks inside the kitchen. The menu is designed to share, with a banquet menu featuring meats like the char sui, whole roast duck, and the zesty lemon chicken. Asian staples such as dumplings, steamed buns, and wontons are also on the menu (phew).
District Brasserie
If you’ve been looking for somewhere nicer than a boring ol’ food court to spend your lunch break, then look no further guys, because District Brasserie is here to save you from your sad lunches (and yourself). This place mixes French fine dining with casual take-away vibes with their new brasserie and bakery (a match made in foodie heaven, if we do say so). We’re suckers for the aged brass and polished marble fit out that brings just the right amount of fancy to your brekky/lunch meeting/dinner date/day. It’s sophisticated without being schmancy, so obviously it’s our kind of place.
Stanton & Co.
Rosebery is quickly becoming one of Sydney’s most pleasant foodie surprises, and with the news that the brains behind a few Sydney faves (think Surly’s, The Village Inn, and Riley St Garage) are opening a fresh new restaurant, it just got even better.
Alleyway
Nestled right in the heart of the CBD, Alleyway is your new go-to for after work drinks (or lunchtime bevvies—it’s 5 o’clock somewhere right?).
The Meat & Wine Co
The Meat and Wine Co have been making our steakhouse dreams come true for years, but the newest member of their tribe is set to blow us away—again. Tucked in the freshly renovated Barangaroo complex, your new favourite meat hub has fused the traditional historical Aboriginal design with their own modern South African flair, and it’s a damn delicious combination if we’re being honest.
Cod’s Gift
From the creators of local favourite Wolfe and Co, comes Cod’s Gift—the newest seafood restaurant in the Hills District. As the name suggests, they’ll be serving up freshly caught Australian seafood with a focus on local produce, which is (as you’d expect) all sustainably sourced, thus helping to preserve the Australian ecosystem. Now that’s something we can all get behind, surely?
Sakeshop
Okay Sydney—let’s face it. Whether we like to admit it or not, we can be a bit snobby when it comes to our coffee, our wine, and yes even our booze. But what about sake (we know it’s booze, but really, it’s a whooooole thing on its own)?
Bella Vista Hotel
The Bella Vista Hotel is a not-so-hidden gem in The Hills. The team here serve up delicious food alongside even better cocktails. Locals know that Saturday nights here are absolutely heaving, with live music, a pumping dancefloor and that when it comes to gathering the crew—this is the place to do it.
Since I Left You
It's not often that inner-city Sydney bars can shake off the corporate culture that pervades the area, but Since I Left You manages to feel like a small neighbourhood haunt, oozing charm (and booze) in its dimly-lit interior. It's 1920s speakeasy feel, with the reclaimed wooden bar and industrial courtyard is offset by a modern approach, complete with upbeat service and an effortlessly cool funk/soul soundtrack.
Botany View Hotel
Lovers of the Lord Gladstone and Lady Hampshire now have another new stomping ground to mix into the rotation of already winning pubs (hello, have you tried the tacos at The Lady Hampshire?) and we are guessing that you’ll be as happy about this one as we are. Botany View Hotel has been a staple on the Newtown pub scene since basically forever, but now it’s had a facelift and we have a feeling that you're about to start spending a lot more time down South King Street .
Holey Moley
Holey Moley has fiiiiiiinally arrived in Sydney and we've never been more excited to grab a set of clubs and putt.
Sweet Vibes
Sydney now has a dessert delivery service and all of our dessert dreams have just come true. Sweet Vibes are ridiculously cute and their little boxes are packed with handmade goodies like a Lindt chocolate fudge popsicle (we’re listening), two chocolate pyramids in Tiffany blue (see, cute!), marbled vanilla cookies and a vanilla rose doughnut.
Four In Hand
Paddington’s king of all things meat and seafood—Four in Hand—has re-opened with a new dining room, The Grill at The Four, and if either of those things are your jam, then you’ll want to keep reading. The menu here is extensive, with starters of creamy burrata with fennel and orange, or kangaroo tartare with sweet potato crisps on the starts menu, and it only gets better from there.
Mode Kitchen & Bar
Sydney’s Four Seasons Hotel is launching Mode Kitchen & Bar this July and you can expect it to be an expansive casual bistro slash fine dining restaurant. On the pans is Francesco Mannelli, (previously the Head Chef at Uccello, est., and Balla) who has crafted a menu full simple dishes done well.
Panlasang Pinoy
From the outside, this little gem looks like your average grocer but we’ll have you know, it’s so much more than that. Sure, if you want the real deal when it comes to off-the-shelf Filipino goods, Panlasang Pinoy is your go-to but these guys are also cranking a mean barbecue. And just a warning, the drool is real.
High Street Social Penrith
Known as the home of chicken wings, High Street Social in Penrith is your go-to for a good ol’ greasy feed. Whether you’re dining in or pigging out at home (no judgement) be sure to grab one of the signature burgers. There’s the social experiment (as good as it sounds), loaded with not one but SIX Waygu beef patties, six slices of American cheese, crispy bacon, and more cheese, but in stick form. Yep, as if the six slices of cheese weren’t enough.
Over The Moo
From one (lactose intolerant) ice-cream lover to another, you’ll be over the moon to hear that Over the Moo have taken to Sydney’s roads (see what we did there?), bringing their vegan gelato goods with them. As Sydney’s first ever dairy-free ice-cream truck, Over the Moo was founded by Alexander Houseman, who felt that there was a severe lack of tasty dairy free alternatives in our fair city—and we couldn’t have agreed more..
Dutch Smuggler
Dutch Smuggler is known for cold brews, toasties and damn good coffee, and now they’ve moved in on the CBD. This is the second outpost by the team that brought cold brew to Broadway, but this time they’ve filled their menu with classic café-style dishes and a few weekly surprises.
Joe Dough
If you’re a long-time lover of anything involving dough (come at us doughnuts and cookie dough) then you may want to take a seat, because chef Dan McGuirt has opened an American-style café in Darlinghurst dedicated to just that. You can consider this your official permission to eat your weight in the good stuff (we plan to).

Drury Lane At Brewtown
They’re called baked ‘goods’ for a reason, and Drury Lane is delivering them. Hailing originally from Tasmania (it's one of the state's fave bakeries, in fact), they've moved into the space above Brewtown Newtown and this sweet-spot is serving up all-things-pastry. The bakery is a partnership between Alistair Wise and Brewtown, and it’s no coincidence chef Alistair’s last name is Wise—as the chef behind Hobart's acclaimed Sweet Envy, Wise has brought his expertise to Sydney, and we’re more than willing to take one of everything for a spin.
The Walrus
Step aside Ikea, there’s a new Scandinavian-inspired star in town and it goes by the name of The Walrus. A quick hop from Town Hall will land you in the bright walls of this trendy AF café dishing up breakfast tacos (yes, they’re a thing) on the daily. Experimenting with contemporary, European flavours (think smoked salmon and quinoa salad paired with grapefruit and asparagus) as well as old-school faves (aka porridge and pasta), there’s something for even the pickiest eater.
Tinello
Tinello is a little slice of Italy on Glebe Point Road that is perfect for impressing on your next date or for dinner with the in-laws. The menu, in true Italian fine dining style, starts off with cured meats ordered in 35 or 90 grams, as well as other delish small dishes like the burrata, amoretti and currant burnt butter.
