Beauty Oils | What’s Oil the Fuss?

By Bree Nowland

There was a time, not very long ago, when the use of oil was nothing short of beauty taboo. If it wasn’t oil-free; it wasn’t touching our face. There was a preconceived assumption that dousing your hair and skin in oil went hand-in-hand with clogged pores, greasy foreheads and needing to wash your hair twice a day. But today, the oil revolution is well and truly here; and we couldn’t be happier! Facial oils? Our favourite. Body oils? Twice a day. Shampoo? Only if it’s oil based. Facial cleansers? The oilier the better.

There are hundreds of essential oils out there—each with specific benefits, if you’ve got a skincare woe, chances are there’s an oil for that. For example, grapeseed oil actually regulates natural oil production while naturally cleansing, argan oil protects and moisturises skin and hair, beloved coconut oil not only hydrates but interestingly has antibacterial properties, avocado oil has great anti-ageing benefits and rose oil calms and soothes angry or inflamed skin… The list is endless!

If you’re yet to jump on the oil-wagon, there is no better time than right now. Oils are not only incredibly hydrating and nourishing; they protect your skin and hair from environmental aggressors; from wind to ridiculously low temps that leave everything from the ends of your hair to the tips of your toes screaming out for a little moisture. If you’re already an oil aficionado, well, we’ve Urban Listed the latest and greatest oils to bring you (almost) an entire oil-based beauty regime. Say hello to radiant skin, hydrated locks and glowing limbs!
