Catwalk Trend Alert | The Hair You’ll Be Wearing This Spring

We love the hairdressers of Brisbane, not least for their ability to spot a hot hair trend from a mile away.

Because it's our jam to keep your well-coiffed head keeping on, we've again pretty-please requested the super talented hairdressers in Brisbane give us their follicular secrets.

Now in their 11th year, Toni & Guy The Valley are one of the most consistently awesome hairdressers in Brisbane, and with a massive fashion colour, cut and styling repertoire, they were the obvious choice for tips on how to work the hottest catwalk trends into your everyday look (with the help of a fabulous stylist, of course!).

Here, the cool team at Toni & Guy The Valley lend us their tress obsessed grey matter to give you the hottest catwalk trends for the coming season.

Editor's Tip: Don't forget to take up the offer of complimentary refreshments from T&G The Valley's menu. Bubbles and a sweet treat while you have your hair done is one of life's greatest pleasures!

Are you game to take the plunge and lop it off? The Toni & Guy The Valley crew says it doesn't have to be as drastic as J.Law's pixie 'do. "We are seeing a lot of women experimenting with mid-length styles at the moment," says Kate, Toni & Guy The Valley Director.

"We are absolutely loving Karlie Kloss's versatile locks at the moment. Wear a middle part in the daytime with some movement and natural texture then switch it up to a heavy side part with a smooth shiny finish for an evening on the town.

"Whenever you change your style though, keep in mind three golden rules: "You always need to consider your lifestyle and the time it takes to style your hair; the natural texture of your hair and whether you'll need curly or straight/product; and above all else your face shape. These three factors will help you decide what style is best suited to you," she says.

It may feel as though the search for the perfect product is endless but in reality, there are quite a few great options when it comes to the mid-length cut, according to the Toni & Guy The Valley Art Directors, Junella Hettig and Sarah Wall.

"Label M Texturising Volume spray is great because it creates body, but gives a matte finish on dry hair. This product is perfect for that tousled look on medium and short hair without having to use hairspray or wax," says Sarah.

"Label M Sea Salt Spray can be used on wet or dry hair to enhance natural texture, give body, and hold in place," adds Junella.

It-girl of the moment, Nicole Richie is the muse for the latest colour trend, says colour technician at Toni&Guy The Valley, Alycia Bennett: "Nicole has been the latest to sport the pastel phenomenon, and whether you love it or not, it's a fantastic way to create a statement!"

"The ombre is slowly starting to fade away and we are seeing more shiny, luxe looking hair colours instead."

But what if you aren't ready to say sayonara to the ombre altogether? "Why not play around with some fashion shades or even a copper tone using Wella Colour Fresh — a semi permanent colour — on the mid-lengths and ends to give yourself a revitalized look. Kristen Stewart is working a grown out copper look right now. Love or hate?"

"Wella have introduced a range called 'Perfecton', which is perfect for cheeky weekend colour. It's a sheer rinse that we use to create any fashion shade. The best part is, it rinses out before work on Monday!" says Alycia.

"Spring 2014 catwalk has seen lots of 'up-do' type styles, whether they are sleek and sophisticated, or undone and unpolished. We are loving both equally," says Kate.

"Chanel has shown us some amazing 'undone up-dos' in their spring 2014 show and Sarah Murdoch is sporting a textured, undone pony on the front cover of this month's Vogue. These styles are great for daytime wear."

At the other end of the spectrum sometimes simple is the most elegant. "A simple middle part and low ponytail creates a sophisticated look that is very quick and easy to achieve using some Label M Gel or Extra Strong Gel."

"These looks can be achieved easily by using the Label M Texturing Volume Spray or some Label M Resurrection Style Dust to give you the body and texture with a matte finish."
