This Friday night, turn your eyes south of the river as QAGOMA is transformed with a dramatic (and permanent!) light exhibition! (As if Brisbane’s sunset skyline isn’t already pretty enough!?)
The James Turrell Lights Up GOMA exhibition will shine from the cultural precinct, all the way across the river, like a literal beacon to our city’s cultural hub. GOMA’s white box façade has been waiting for its moment in the spotlight since its very beginnings. Ten years on, this iridescent instillation will realise architects Architectus + Davenport’s original (and bloody brilliant!) design vision for the building to have an artist-created light work.
The eastern and southern facades of GOMA will be illuminated from within this Friday at 7pm, then from dusk until midnight daily. Believe the hype; James Turrell’s radiant piece will transform your vision of this much-loved cultural landmark!
The best spot to get a first glimpse at the ever-evolving pattern of light will be at Friday’s opening party on the Maiwar Green Lawn outside GOMA. Turrell himself will be joining the shindig—and yes, there will be BBQ and Paella stations. The champs from Burleigh Brewing Co. will also be keeping the craft beers flowing throughout the celebration.
So follow the afterglow at sundown this Friday, and don’t miss the luminescent opening party!
