Summer is here and this means balmy evenings and summer soirées with your favourite people. We’re talking bubbles, nibbles, and banter—great combo, huh? To ensure your summer is all sorts of wonderful, we’ve teamed up with Oyster Bay Sparkling Cuvée to bring you eight essentials you need to know about for your next summer event.

1. It’s All About The Playlist

Set the vibe with a decent playlist (or two). Start with light, jazzy tunes and only change to more upbeat numbers once things gain momentum (hear us: it is a mistake to play Eye Of The Tiger at 5pm). Spotify is your best friend when it comes to perfecting your playlist/s. Invest in portable outdoor speakers (waterproof, preferably), hook up your phone, and you’re away laughing.

2. Sparkling, Fizz, Bubbles…You Get The Drift

It wouldn’t be a soirée without bubbles—and we’re talking the good kind! Toast to summer with a glass of Oyster Bay Sparkling Cuvée. This elegant sparkling wine has a vibrant and zesty flavour and a whooole lot of refreshing bubbles. Jazz up your water with fresh fruit and herbs such as watermelon and mint, blueberry and lavender or mango and lime.

3. The Spread To End All Spreads

Snacks that cool you down as they fill you up are the go here. You can’t go wrong with a decadent spread of nibbles. We’re talking fresh baguette, wheels of cheese (the more varieties, the better), charcuterie, olives, and fresh oysters. Summer is aaall about fresh fruit so make sure you’ve got pineapple, watermelon, grapes and strawberries at the ready. Plus, dropping a few berries in your bubbles takes things up a notch!

4. Get Decorating

We have two words for you: fairy lights. There is no easier Instagram fodder available to the wannabe event organiser. A good selection of flowers to adorn the tabletop will only add to the good looks of your soirée (look for flower wholesalers in your area for bulk bunches that won’t break the bank), and don’t be afraid to whip out the paper lanterns as dusk falls.

5. Pools Are Cool (Duh)

I think we can all agree there’s nothing better than lounging pool-side over summer. If you’re lucky enough to have a pool (can we be your friend?), this is the perfect setting for your soirée, and should be the centrepiece of your event. Ditch the teenage pool party vibes with floating candles, line the edge with lanterns, and up the mood lighting (see fairy lights above!).

6. Game On

Trust us, games are a great ice breaker for guests and will keep the lols coming all night long—but we’re not talking Scrabble. Being outdoors over summer calls for rounds of petanque and croquet. Invite your crew to dress up in summer whites and pair them with a guest they’ve never met before and voila, instant buds for life. If you want to go all out, you could get particularly crafty and source pieces of wood from your local hardware store to make a giant Jenga.

7. Look The Part

Now that your soirée is sorted, all that’s left is for you to look the part. Ladies, think summery dresses and strappy sandals. If the sun’s out, stay sun-safe (and stylish) with this season’s must-have, the boater hat and oversized sunnies. Lads, think classic yet suave with linen shorts, a short-sleeve shirt, crisp sneakers and the all-important sunglasses. It’s a thoughtful touch to provide your guests with some discreet spray-on sunscreen stations, because drinks and sunstroke don’t mix.

8. Capture Those Memories

You’ll wanna capture all those fond summer memories! Make sure you’ve stocked up on instant camera film and get snapping. Alternatively, give one of your mates the job of official photographer and put your feet up knowing the hard work is being done for you.
