Summer has well and truly arrived, which means ditching darker shades in favour of sun-kissed tresses, and losing some hair-weight, so you don’t melt.
We asked some of the best hairdressers in Brisbane for their picks of the hottest hair trends that will keep you cool all summer long, as seen on some of our favourite mane-inspiring celebrity heads.
These are the hair trends you’ll be wearing this summer.
The Grown-Out Bob
Laura MacLeod, head stylist from cool Nundah salon, Ruby Room says this summer the LOB will be bigger than ever this summer.
'My favourite hair trend for summer is the textured bob, spearheaded by the likes of Kate Moss and Lara Bingle, who recently said goodbye to their long hair in favour of this summer-friendly style.'
Hitting the length above the chin, the LOB is the standout trend for the upcoming season. This feminine style worn with a deep side part is perfect for making fine hair look thicker and makes for easy casual styling in the summer heat. It's also the go-to style for ladies who took the chop in winter and are pining for their lost length. It’s an on-trend style to keep you motivated while your hair is growing, as seen most recently by Jennifer Lawrence,' says Laura.
One for the coolest cool kids, Lou Hawksworth, Technical Director of Toni & Guy in the CBD, says the hottest hair trend for summer 14/15 will be synthetic tones.
‘This summer, pastel pinks and violets will still be popular, but we will also see more soft greys, blues, and mint greens,’ she says.
‘This look is fresh and fun, with no commitment to one tone. You’re able to change your colour regularly, which is a bonus for commitment-phobes!
‘Nichole Richie has been rocking this trend for a while now, and I think we’re getting brave enough to try it ourselves.’
One Brisbane hairdresser that knows her way around a hair trend is Lila Boheme’s Lisa Guardala.
For summer 14/15 she’s loving a tousled ‘90s vibe.
'Lara Bingle and French actress Lea Seydoux are rocking blunt ends cut at the jawline. Instead of layers, the ends just need to be textured slightly to give volume without shattering the overall blunt effect. This cut looks especially cool with the part is swept over, instead of a perfect clean part line,' she says.
'This look is perfect for our humid Brisbane summer, which brings out the natural curl in most people's hair. Just spray in a beach spray, scrunch dry or air dry, and go!'
The Wet Hair Look
All-round cool guy and head stylist at Milton salon, XIN Twenty One, Xin Guo says the hottest look for summer is the wet look.
'We love this look because it works well on short, medium, and long hair,' says Xin.
'Whether it’s slick and smooth, or has some texture, this look is great for summer because it‘s humidity-proof. It’s also a cool option for formal events.'
Heather McMurtrie from Paddington's Little Hair Nest says we'll be seeing brunettes go copper for summer.
'Brunettes are opting for it as a lighter, brighter colour for summer, and blonds are adding a little peachy kiss to their toners for something a little warmer. This is a beautiful, vintage look.'
Keep to the golden tones of copper for that natural and summery feeling, rather than shades with too much red pigment. If you are thinking of adding a touch copper to your colour, why not try adding peachy tones to your blond, or balayage with just a hint of copper through your usual ash brown,' she says.
