7 Things Successful People Do (That You Probably Don’t)

7 things successful people always do

We’ve all had those days; days when you forget to brush your hair, you spill coffee on your unironed shirt (you’re running late, that’s a given), and you’re forced to take a long, hard look at yourself. It’s those days when it’s officially time to get your sh*t together.

But let’s be honest, you never actually do anything to fix this situation, do you? That’s where we come in. We’ve teamed up with the legends from Westfield’s epic new co-working space, WOTSO, to work out every single way to become just a little bit better at being a human being. You’re welcome.

#1. They Adult

Yes, we’re serious. You’re going to have to start being a grown-up. This means brushing your hair, exercising (45 minutes minimum, people!), eating well and going to bed early. We don’t mean give up chocolate and wake up at 5am, but you know, don’t try and survive on five hours sleep because you stayed up all night watching 13 Reasons Why.

#2. They Disconnect

Turn off your phone and step away from that laptop. The moment you leave the office you need to leave your work behind. No emails. No phone calls. No worrying about everything you have to do the next day. Believe it or not, it can wait. Read a book, cook up a storm or listen to a podcast.

#3. They Prioritise

Speaking of worrying… whether it’s organising your work diary, sorting your finances (credit card debt sucks, amirite?) or finding time to do your laundry (yes, we are totally judging you if you still take it to your Mum’s), you need to know how to prioritise. Make a list, be realistic and plan. Organised chaos is absolutely a thing you should get behind.

#4. They Hot Desk

It’s hard to be creative when you’re stuck inside four bleak walls Monday to Friday. Opt for a change of scenery at least once a week at our fave co-working space, WOTSO. With more than 11 sites across Australia, it’s worth investing in a WOTSO passport, giving you 24/7 access to lightning speed WiFi at all locations. Oh, and FYI a new open plan space is opening very, very soon at Chermside with more than 170 desks, 15 lockable offices and a fully stocked communal kitchen.

#5. They Network

You’re going to have to get off the couch and tear yourself away from Netflix for this one (yes, again). Say hello to the random in the elevator, go to that event where you don’t know anyone and hang out with your squad as much as you goddamn can. You never know who you’ll meet…

#6. They Say No

Obviously being a yes person gets you far but the trick to being successful is knowing when to say no. You can’t do everything so don’t even bother trying to. You’ll burn out and probs hate your life (sorry not sorry).

#7. They Give Back

That’s right. Giving back to others in need, or the community around you is something you should do on the reg. What you give is what you get—it’s not about giving money, it’s about giving time. Choose something close to your heart and you’re guaranteed to get addicted to doing good.
