hair products for men

You know what, I can’t bring myself to say gents. Can’t do it, won’t do it. What I can do though, is run you through some decent men’s hair products that won’t have you looking like a complete potato when you walk out the door.

evo box o' bollox

evo have made their name as a no-nonsense hair care company. No wild ingredients, no animal testing, no mystery formulas, just products that work. The box o’ bollox is a water soluble texture paste that provides an incredibly strong hold with a matte finish. While it’ll work for all hair types, it’s probably best used on something short and textured.

V76 Energizing Shampoo

This is a lightweight, every day kind of shampoo. The ingredients, including green tea and lavender, revitalise your hair without stripping it of its essential oils. The addition of peppermint oil gives a pleasant tingle along the way.

Sachajuan Ocean Mist Sea Salt Spray

If you’re after that whole just stepped off a boat look, but don’t actually, you know, own a boat—a sea salt spray is probably the way to go. Sachajuan is a great option, it’s lightweight and can be used in wet or dry hair. For the full windblown effect, blow dry while running fingers through your hair.

R&Co Tinsel Smoothing Oil

If you’re that guy who has annoying, frizzy, hair that just gets all up in your everywhere and refuses to be tamed, this smoothing oil is probably going to be worth a look. It’s a really light oil that works to smooth out frizz, and give it a bit of shine as well. You’ll probably want to pair it with something to give your hair a bit of texture, but it’ll go a long way towards giving you that manageability.

MALIN+GOETZ Firm Hold Hair Gel

A new look at an old-school gel, this is a long way removed from that one God-awful tub you bought when you were 13. While it’s described as a firm hold, I’d actually say it sits somewhere in the middle of the range. Perfect for mid-length hair, it doesn’t hold quite hard enough for short. Just a really solid everyday option.

Kevin Murphy Night.Rider Matte Texture Paste

I cant lie, I find it very hard to take a product called ‘Night.Rider’ seriously. I should though, because this stuff is awesome. It’s a firm hold paste, using beeswax, perfect for creating those rough, choppy, looks. Rub it on your hands, then work it through damp hair. You’ll have a little bit of time to work with it before it sets into a matte finish. If you’re after an all-day hold, this is the way to go.

Kiehl's Ultimate Thickening Shampoo

Fine, thin, or thinning hair is something that’ll happen to the best of us. It’s a cruel reality that we can’t all wake up looking like Jon Hamm. While Kiehl’s works to thicken your hair up, giving it a bit of extra volume, it can dry your hair and scalp out. So be sure to pair it with a trusted conditioner for best results.

American Crew Fiber

American Crew is an obvious go to for guys. It's straightforward, simple and easy to use, which is why we love the stuff. Fiber is great because it gives strong hold without being all shiny and greasy looking, plus it makes your hair look fuller which, although many of us won't want to admit, is kind of important.
