With the Sydney dining scene virtually bursting with choice, it can be hard to suss out where the best long lunches in Sydney are. But don’t worry, we’ve done the hard work for you and found the places with breathtaking harbour views, masterfully crafted cocktails and some mighty delectable dishes.
Here are our fave five long lunch spots in Sydney.
Excellent food and wine is what makes a long lunch and the guys at Nomad have got this covered in spades. The industrial fit-out of this Surry Hills fave offers a relaxed vibe perfect for all ladies (and lads) of leisure while the boutique wine selection means you’re gonna want to get comfortable because you’re here for the long haul. Speaking of perfection, as far as food pairings go, you can’t get much better than charcuterie and wine and Nomad’s board is one of the best (they cure and pickle everything in-house).
Icebergs Dining Room & Bar
Damn that vista. To take your long lunch to new heights you can’t go past Icebergs with its stunning ocean views. Look out for that sunny symbol on your weather forecast and book in early because this Bondi restaurant is mighty popular for good reason. While the view is hard to beat, the pretty as a picture dishes will give it a run for its money—think yellowfish tuna with prosciutto and a parmesan custard—yep don’t worry, we’re salivating too.
Forego the pub for your next catch-up with the #squad and treat yourself to a delicious day by the water at China Doll. Make the celebrations for your next occasion extra long with their banquet menu filled with dishes that give a modern refresh to Chinese classics. Oh, and of course we couldn’t forget the extensive cocktail list that’ll keep you occupied all afternoon long. Hot tip: keep your eye out for celebs—Russell Crowe has been known to be passing by in his Sunday finest i.e. his trackies.
Dining at Catalina, you’d probably find your long lunch turning into dinner because you just can’t peel your eyes away from those glorious Rose Bay harbour views. With its European-influenced menu it’s easy to feel as if you’re sipping on a glass of white in the French Riveria. ‘Grammable dishes like crispy skin pork belly with cauliflower puree and smoked duck breast, confit duck with a cherry jus grace the menu, but let’s not forget dessert—we’re heading straight for the chef’s selection because it’s just too hard to choose just one.
Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay
The more upmarket member of the Boathouse family, you can’t get much more extravagant than munching on some Rock lobster at Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay. This Glebe institution prides itself on its seafood and seasonal produce, which translates to one of the most delicious long lunches you’ll ever have. With probably every variety of oyster worth knowing about available as well as their famed snapper pie to devour, get the whole clan together and make some delicious memories.
