Listers, we’re not far from farewelling 2014 and you know what that means? Oooohhh yeah, it’s time to get our New Year’s Eve draaank on!

While a night out celebrating the year’s end with friends is fine for some, a (slightly debaucherous) cocktail party at home is a much better option for others. The question is though, what do you serve if you’re playing barman?

Don’t panic, dear Listers, cos we’ve got you covered! We headed straight to the drink experts, the geniuses behind some of the nation’s finest bars, and got them to spill (ba-doom-chhh) three of the best cocktail recipes for New Year’s Eve! Cheers!

A hive of activity of Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, Rice Queen is the Melbourne bar responsible for the super refreshing Koi Pond cocktail. The mixture of gin, lime juice and elderflower cordial, the Koi Pond is easy to make and sure to please!

45ml gin (Rice Queen like to use West Winds Sabre)
20ml lime juice
15ml elderflower cordial (most supermarkets and bottle shops have this nowadays)
Piece of cucumber (about 1 inch long)
2 mint leaves
To garnish – a slice of cucumber

Using a Boston shaker, muddle the cucumber and mint leaves. Add the remaining cocktail ingredients and then shake vigorously. Double strain into a coupe glass before garnishing with a slice of cucumber. Enjoy!

With a retro Chinese feel and cool neon fish tank, The Smoking Panda creates some of the best cocktails in Sydney! They’ve spilled the beans on their Smoked Whiskey Sour recipe – a great twist on an old fave!

2 parts cherry infused bourbon
1 part lemon juice
1/2 part sugar
1/2 part egg white
A dash of Angostura bitters
Handful of ice
To garnish – an orange twist and a maraschino cherry

Place all ingredients plus the handful of ice into a shaker and shake it like it ain’t no thang. After about 20 seconds of shaking, strain the mix into a short glass filled with ice and garnish with the garnish twist and maraschino cherry. Cheers!

Brisbane CBD bar The Gresham is known for their killer cocktails and The Evergreen No. 1 is no exception! A combination of bourbon, Grand Marnier, chocolate and more, The Evergreen No. 1 will be devoured by your New Year’s Eve party guests!

45ml Coco Pop infused Buffalo Trace bourbon
15ml Picon
5ml Grand Marnier
5ml Ruby Port
2 dashes chocolate bitters
An orange disk
To garnish - a lemon twist

Stir all ingredients well in a Boston shaker before straining into a chilled cocktail glass. Next, flame an orange disk and squeeze over the drink to release the essential oils, before discarding. To finish, simply garnish with a lemon twist and serve. Too easy!

There you go, Listers! Three of the very best cocktail recipes guaranteed to get your New Year’s Party started…see you on the flipside!
