Cars parked in front of cinema screen.

You've no doubt heard the news that Yatala Drive-In has reopened for socially distanced movies, but for noth siders unwillingly to drive quite that far south, the new Parked In Pictures at Hendra might be just the theatre for you.

The drive in cinema is from Get Parked, a Brisbane car parking company who have found themselves with a heap of empty carparks around town. In order to keep their staff employed and entertain Brisbane residents at the same time, they're turning one of those empty carparks into a drive in cinema, showing 2020 movies that only had limited runs in theatres.

Taking over a carpark on Nudgee Road in Hendra, with a 10 metre-wide and 6 metre-high outdoor screen, you’ll be able to park up, recline your car seat and enjoy flicks like The Gentlemen and Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey.

There’s also a bunch of newer releases screening, as well as feel-goods, rom coms and kids movies. The full line-up is here.

As for how you'll hear the movie—it'll be transmitted over your car radio. How neat.

And naturally, you’ll be in for some diner-style treats to snack on while you watch. Wine & Dine'm Catering will be plating up traditional cinema snacks including popcorn, candy, ice cream, and soft drinks, plus some old school favourites like hot dogs, burgers and chips—all delivered direct to cars.

If things go well, the team plan on taking over an even bigger location, and expand to the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba. For now, you can grab tickets to a screening here.
