Brisbane Festival Rolls Into Town!

If there’s one thing we all look forward to in September it's Brisbane Festival. Spanning the entire month of September, from the 9th until the 30th September, this celebration of all the things that make Brisbane awesome is an ABSOLUTE must-do. We’re talking everything from mind-boggling acrobatic shows to innovative theatre productions to a kick-ass performance by none other than London Grammar. And that’s before we even get to the collection of food stalls and themed bars waiting for you to eat and sip your way through. Brisbane Festival, we’re ready!

Big Up Bigsound Festival

4 days, 18 venues and over 130 artists are only the beginning when it comes to Bigsound Festival. The festival responsible for launching such internationally-recognised names as Flume and Courtney Barnett will be rolling into the Fortitude Valley on September 5th for its sixteenth year of celebrating all things good about Australian music. We guess you could say it’s a pretty big deal. This year’s line-up includes Drown This City, alongside local legends Aurelia, a Grammy Award-nominated songwriter, and Confidence Man. Brisbane, you know what to do.

QSO Plays The Romantics

If classical music is more your thing, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra has totally got your back with their performance of the romantics. Led by the skilled hand of Darrell Ang, Singapore’s esteemed conductor, the QSO will present a double bill of great romantic works from Berlioz and Tchaikovsky. Created in collaboration with Brisbane Festival, QSO promises to take audiences from the wild Abruzzi Mountains to the quaint villages of Italy. You so don’t want to miss this one night only event, friends.

Sunsuper Riverfire Lights Up The Sky

September in Brisbane just wouldn’t be complete without the total sensory overload that is the Sunsuper Riverfire. Riverfire knows how to celebrate in style as it caps off the festivities of Brisbane Festival with a 20 minute long fireworks spectacular you won’t soon forget. Our suggestion: grab your squad and stake out a prime position at South Bank somewhere between the riverbank and the fine selection of food trucks appearing specifically for the event. Then, dance the night away to a killer soundtrack made up of all the best songs from 1998 until the present. Oh and did we mention that this Riverfire marks the 20th year (!) since the events inception, so you can bet they’re pulling out all the stops. Run, don’t walk.

Comic-Con Is COMING

Nerds of Brisbane, that hallowed time of year is drawing near: OZ Comic-Con Brisbane is back in September. We know, we need a minute too. The usual suspects will be back this year with enough cosplay, celebrity appearances and shopping opportunities to leave your heart skipping a beat. As if you needed any more excuses to kit out your home/body in nerd-themed goodies (we certainly don’t). Go there, love it, tag us in the photos of your swag. You’re welcome friends.

Cheers To Beer InCider 2017

Beer lovers, we’re about to show you what heaven looks like. The Beer InCider Experience boasts over 300 brews, 53 breweries and cideries and 15 food trucks over two glorious days in September. Taking place at the Brisbane Showgrounds, the experience will also include sweet tunes from nine bands – including Ball Park Music and Darren Middleton (of Powderfinger fame). Yes, you heard us right, we’re talking a pretty much never-ending supply of beer (the true elixir of life) accompanied by enough cheese and food to have even your fat pants begging for mercy. In other words, it’s going to be awesome.

Wizardfest—A Festival Deidcated To Wizardry (We Kid You Not)

Let’s be honest, we were all a little bitter when our Hogwarts letter never came in the mail. Well, now is your chance to set things right by living it up like a true wizard at the Jubilee Hotel’s Wizardfest. Think themed drinks, including fire whiskey and butter-beer, a killer costume competition and the opportunity to win some truly magical prizes. Harry Potter has nothing on you, Brisbane.

Hear Classics At The Postmodern Jukebox

Famous for recreating modern jams in vintage style, Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox will be making its way to Brisbane for a third time this September. After two sell-out Australian tours in two years, you bet that this rotating troupe of insanely talented musicians and singer knows a thing or two about putting on a killer show. Did anyone say spending the evening being serenaded by a 20’s style version of Ice Ice Baby with a glass of red in one hand? We don’t think things could get any classier.

Keep Your Cool At The So Cool Party

If Wizardfest wasn’t your thing, how about a party dedicated to all the best hits from, well, the past seven years. Enter the second iteration of the TBC Club’s So Cool Party. Paying homage to the So Fresh compilation album series (which we’re pretty sure every millennial has owned at some point in their life), the party will celebrate the greatest tunes from 2010 to 2017, accompanied by live support from Andy Strudwick. Oh and did we mention your ticket guarantees you free fairy bread on arrival? See you there!

Festival highlights include the annual Fair Day, transforming New Farm Park into one big party complete with music and food, and the Rally and March. 2017 marks the festival’s 27th year of pride, so you can bet they know a thing or two about a good time.  Sign us the heck up!

Gett Stuffed At The Annual Thai Festival 2017

Brisbane, you are killing it with the festivals this September. If you just can’t get enough, you could always hit up the annual Brisbane Thai Festival, taking place on the 3rd of September.  We’re talking mountains of pad Thai, Muay Thai demonstrations and an all-day Thai beer and wine garden. And that’s before we even get to the traditional cooking shows or the plethora of foodie options available to sample. Yeah, you’re definitely going to need those stretchy pants for this one, friends.
