Brisbane does the whole randomly-located-restaurant thing very well, and new Brisbane gastro pub, London Fields, is no exception.
Housed in a sunlit space beside West End’s new grocery mecca, The Stores, London Fields has all the friendly appeal of your local pub, albeit the best looking pub you’ve ever had the pleasure of stepping inside.
The latest venture by the gang behind Red Hook and Coppa Spuntino, Bonnie Shearston and Tom Sanceau, London Fields is the result of their latest collaboration with Public co-owner Jason White, and has hit the same mark of quality we’ve come to expect from these cracking Brisbane venues. The polished concrete bar and open plan design are made for cool Queensland dining.
The menu is split between bar snacks and larger meals, with a nose-to-tail bent that feels very fresh. Sweetbreads, peas, and broad beans? Don’t mind if we do. Pork tail with soubise and pickled pear? Get over here.
The roasted bone marrow with thyme on crispy onion, complete with crunchy baguette to spread the melting goodness on, is a winner. And there’s a wagyu cheeseburger on the menu we’re yet to try that’s crying out for a taste test.
London Fields also has a bountiful sides and veg’ menu, including a whole roast cauliflower with garlic and almond (yum), and a stand out example of this year’s renaissance vegetable, brussels sprouts, served with bacon and dill.
Dessert was olive oil cake with lemon and whipped ricotta; one spoon in and we were seriously regretting our decision to share. I am coming back for the roast banana with honey, rosemary, and hazelnut, mark my words.
London Fields is also open for breakfast on weekends.
