Smell that? Yep, the Night Noodle Markets are coming back, people. The return of this delicious event means we’re welcoming the one time of the year when it’s openly acceptable to gorge yourself on everything in sight. Well, aside from Christmas, Easter and every single other day.
You’ll be stuffed silly with everything from smoky BBQ pork belly, juicy burgers and allllll the noodles you can get your hands (and mouths) on. These are all of the must eats at this year’s Noodle Markets—we’re ready.
BBQ Lechon | Hoy Pinoy
If past years have taught us anything, it’s that Hoy Pinoy is always worth saving room for. You’ll smell the smoky, chargrilled goodness wafting from this delicious Filipino-style stall long before you spot it, so follow your nose and you’ll be juuuuuust fine. Everything is cooked over an open-air charcoal BBQ, meaning you can literally watch the magic happen before your eyes. Our top pick is the chargrilled pork skewers with sweet and sour banana ketchup (yes, really) or the famous Lechon, tender smoked suckling pork loin. You can’t go wrong TBH.
Hoi Sin Going Bro | Chur Burger
The legends over at Chur Burger have raised the stakes. This year they're bringing their burger A game along with a little bit of something extra—cue the Hoi Sin Going Bro. Combining the expected with deliciously unexpected you’ll find a juicy beef patty, American cheddar, hoisin sauce, five-spice bacon and rice wine pickles sandwiched between two halves of a soft bun. We can’t even deal with the fact that it’ll be served with a side of prawn crackers—why didn’t we think of this?
Korean Twist Potato | Twistto
Nothing screams food markets more than literally anything on a stick, and Twistto know exactly how to do it right, with their signature twist potato. Think Korean fried potato cut into curls, battered and deep fried to crispy golden perfection and topped with your choice of chicken salt, vinegar, chilli or pepper. With just the right amount of crunch on the outside and soft on the inside, this is the perfect dish to eat on the go as you figure out which stall to hit next (obvs).
Yakisoba | Little Kyoto
We think Little Kyoto may have hit the foodie jackpot with their sizzling stir-fried Japanese noodles at this year’s Night Noodle Markets. We know you agree.
Noodle Bowls | Taiwan Noodle House
Obviously no night at the Noodle Markets is complete without the mandatory bowl of piping hot noodles. That’s why the Taiwan Noodle House stall is an absolute must. With a brand new menu designed especially for the occasion, you can expect steaming bowls of hand-pulled noodles in a rich five spice beef broth along with beef brisket, crispy pork belly or char sui pork and topped with fresh coriander, bean sprouts and pops of chilli. It’s basically just one big flavour explosion.
Crackling Pork Belly Fries | Mr Bao
As the old saying goes, too much is never enough and we’re pretty sure Mr Bao had this in mind when they created their pork belly fries. Topped with lightly pickled cucumber and coriander, and smothered in a signature hoisin sauce, you’ll be ditching your fork (and dignity) to dig straight into this finger licking good dish. They’re also doing a bao-less pork belly sanger with oozy egg, so you’ll probably definitely want to order both.
Shanghai Surprise Waffle Stick | Waffleland
Serving fluffy pancakes and crispy house-made waffles, Waffleland are at the top of our list for a sweet treat. With toppings like creamy vanilla bean ice-cream, shaved coconut, mango, Violet Crumble ice-cream (!!), the only problem you’ll have is stopping at one (baaiiiii #summerbod). Get in quick because, if the Brisbane market is anything to go by, it’ll sell out.
Oh-No-Giri | Gelato Messina
Let’s face it, when isn’t Gelato Messina a good idea? Literally never is the correct answer, and in this case that’s especially true. Never one to play by the rulebook, the Oh-No-Giri is kind of like a breakfast, but reeeeeaalllyy not. Think green tea gelato and pistachio mousse dipped in rice bubbles and white chocolate. See, totally like a nutritious breakfast.
Smoked Goat Dosa | INDU
Well, it’s about damn time INDU showed their pretty little delicious face at the markets if we do say so. They’ll be serving up their authentic smoked goat dosa and that’s all you need to know.
Lobster Roll | Waterman’s Lobster Co
We’re pretty sure that lobster rolls are known for bringing in the spring vibes—did we make that up? Well, maybe. But one thing we won’t fib about is Waterman’s Lobster Co. Their Lobster rolls, which happen to be making a comeback at this year’s Night Noodle Markets, are kept classic with sweet lobster claw tucked into a soft, buttered roll, with a drizzle of warm butter and mayo, chives and old bay seasoning. See? Classic.
Oh and we're also hosting a few epic boozy brunches for Good Food Month, see.
