If a seafood platter brimming with oysters and octopus, crabs and crayfish, is your idea of food prawn porn, then listen up. Port Stephens is holding a two-day seafood festival dedicated to the the freshest fish ‘n’ friends from the ocean.
The Love Sea Food Weekend Celebration is going down on 18 and 19 August at the D’albora Marina in Nelson Bay, and we can all bow down to our delicious seafood overlords for this one. We’ll happily submit to the festival’s seafood masterclasses and cooking demos, and (hopefully) finally learn how to shuck an oyster, or de-bone a whole snapper. What’s the order? Fish fillet(ing)!
And, very importantly, there will be tastings from the region’s seafood producers. Here is real footage of me at last year’s event:
And after you work (your appetite) hard, play hard. There are some 26 beaches lining the Port Stephens coast and they’re prime for fast-action jet-skiing, luxe yacht cruising and scuba diving to boot.
I mean, just look at this. How are Port Stephens locals not humble bragging all over this?
Plus, August is smack bang in the middle of the whale migration season. Hop on a whale-watching cruise, or loiter around Tomaree National Park to maybe spot a humpback or two. Like these cheeky fellas:
The drive to Port Stephens is an easy 3 hours from Sydney, i.e. shorter than binge-watching all of Netflix’s Evil Genius. And only one of those activities will make you happier about the world. You know what to do.
