What's new in Sydney this month, you ask? Plenty, it seems, as new establishments continue to set up shop around town—from gourmet sandwich shops to exceptional coffee and beautiful vintage finds.  

We've scoured the city for the best new boutiques, restaurants, cafes and bars you should be visiting this month!

The Stinking Bishops | Newtown


For those who enjoy a good dose of fromage, The Stinking Bishops is Newtown's newest cheesemonger-cum-wine bar, offering a vast selection of local and imported goods, such as Comté, cheddar, Manchego, Tilsit and taleggio, as well as whiskey, wine and beer. Dine in or take out, you won't be disappointed.

Chica Linda | Surry Hills

Opening Friday May 2, Chica Linda is the latest eatery from the team at Drink'n'Dine (The Norfolk, Queenie's, The Forresters) to be housed at the back of The Carrington. The menu is a mix of Central and Southern American classics (yes!), with highlights including smoked chicken, BBQ swordfish, Puerto Rican roast pork, and soft shell crab arepas.

Smith Fine Tea & Specialty Coffee

From the boys behind Circa and Three Ropes Espresso, comes their newest venture Smith Fine Tea & Specialty Coffee, a café-roastery bringing a fine brew and delicious pastries to the streets of Parramatta.

Din Tai Fung New Locations

The much-loved Taiwanese-based eatery will have dumpling lovers rejoicing with two new venues, one at Westfield Chatswood and a second at the new Central Park development at Chippendale. Made famous for its broth and pork filled xiao long bao, get to Din Tai Fung's new North and Inner City outposts and pop one on your spoon!

Flight Series @ The Morrison Bar & Oyster Room

The Morrison Bar & Oyster Room has launched a new wine flight series, giving guests the opportunity to sample some of the finest wines from around the globe. First up in May is France with three superb whites available throughout the month, served in tasting flight for $25.

Round She Goes Returns To Sydney

Following its successful debut in 2013, Round She Goes returns to Marrickville Town Hall on May 17, featuring 60 handpicked stalls brimming with pre-loved designer fashion, accessories and jewellery. There'll even be a nail artist to beautify your fingertips, as well as excellent coffee and Mad Hatter Cupcakes for those weary, peckish shoppers. From 10am to 3pm, $2 entry.

The Grumpy Baker Castle Cove

Well-established bakery and café, The Grumpy Baker, is taking its baked goods to the North Shore with the opening of its new Castle Cove location. Situated on Deepwater Road, Northern Suburb folk can indulge in its delicious Tunisian breakfast, traditional shakshouka and its signature loaves and sweet treats.

Scouts Honour

A new sandwich shop and espresso bar, Scouts Honour is a must on your May culinary schedule. The menu features a stack of hearty sandwiches, a few staples such as muesli and ham and cheese toasties, and sweet treats to be washed down with fresh juice and coffee via Five Senses.

New Menu @ Manta Restaurant & Bar

Manta has launched a new and utterly delicious Corporate Tasting (with your choice of nine or ten courses) and winter menu, featuring a vast selection of seafood dishes, an entirely new dessert menu and several signature additions. Not-to-be-missed dishes include: calamari with black garlic aioli and housemade chilli salt; seared Atlantic salmon, pressed-pork shoulder, green apple and vanilla puree with balsamic glaze; and whole king prawns with garlic and parsley. The service at Manta is impeccable as is the stunning Woolloomooloo Wharf location.

Stanley St Merchants

Sydney's highly anticipated, crowd-funded drinking and dining destination, Stanly St Merchants, has finally opened its doors in Darlinghurst and are taking bookings from May 8. Choose from Matt Stone's Sunday lunch, and 8 plate Chef's menu featuring hero dishes from the Merchant's repertoire, or a food and wine showcase where each dish is matched with a complementary drink.
