Keeping up with the best events, new openings, pop ups, and good things to eat in Sydney is no mean feat (and we would know!). To make your life that little bit easier, and because we love a good list, we’ve teamed up with Peroni to bring you What’s Trending: A one-stop guide to everything worth checking out in your city this month, so you won’t miss a thing.
As the weather kicks things up a notch, Sydney is making the most of the heat by getting out and about near the water. Whether it be bar-boats, beach-side croquet or party islands, here are the ten hottest things happening in Sydney this November.
#1. A Foodie Mecca Pops Up At Tramsheds Harold Park
2016 is 100% the year of the Inner West and if you’ve been to Tramsheds Harold Park in Forest Lodge it’s pretty easy to see why. The old Rozelle Tramway Depot has been completely transformed into the coolest foodie mecca this side of Central, housing some of this year’s best new openings from Belle’s Hot Chicken, Butcher and The Farmer, Flour Eggs Water by A Tavola and the delicious Bekya.
#2. Enjoy Culture And Cocktails At MCA Cherry Blossom Bar
A Tatsuo Miyajima inspired cherry blossom bar has popped up at The MCA so you can enjoy your art with a side of saké all summer long. Get cultured with cocktails, or stick to a classic brew underneath a canopy of cherry blossoms and lanterns, all while feasting on plate upon plate of Izakaya style eats.
#3. Sunday Sunset Sessions at Fort Denison
Summer starts early at Fort Denison with weekly Sunday sessions smack bang in the centre of the harbour. Catch a water taxi to the historic island and watch the sun set over the Opera House while listening to some oh-so snazzy jazz beats. If this doesn’t scream Sydney, we don’t know what does.
#4. Our Favourite Pub Has Been Renovated
This 100-year-old pub has finally reopened and it’s set to become an inner city institution. From the guys who brought us West Village in Petersham, East Village has something for everyone with an Athletic Club (think leather booths, dark spirits and TV screens playing sport everywhere), Public Bar (aka Wine Pub) and Rooftop Terrace.
#5. The Royal Croquet Club Kicks Off At Bondi
Making its way to our sunny city for the first time ever, The Royal Croquet Club is an outdoor festival popping up at Bondi Beach just in time for summer. Sydneysiders and beach babes alike can play croquet by day, then eat, drink and dance the balmy nights away.
#6. Summer Calls For Open Air Cinemas
Does anyone actually go to the cinema anymore? Winter is over and so is Netflix and chill, so get your summer bods outdoors and settle in for a night under the stars at Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema. There’s free ice cream every Sunday, live music daily and the best of the best feature films every night.
#7. Sydney's Newest (Ethical) Restaurant Opens
Justin Hemmes and the team at Merivale have unveiled yet another knockout venue in the form of Fred’s at Paddington. Recruiting head chef Danielle Alvarez (aka mother of the farm to table food movement), Fred’s is all about ethically produced seasonal produce, cooked on free standing Tuscan grills and a custom-made hearth because cooking with fire means flavour (duh!).
#8. Sydney Harbour Get The Ultimate Party Boat
Transport yourself to Europe without leaving our shores, courtesy of totally luxe super yacht, Seadeck. It’s a boat and a bar rolled into one, and it’s dropped anchor in Sydney for the entire summer. Prepare yourself for 42 metres of fun in the sun complete with palm trees (yes, we’re serious) and delectable European eats, like ceviche and lobster rolls.
#9. The Island Reopens For Summer
A must on every Sydneysider’s yearly calendar, The Island LIVE, is back and better than ever. Frock (or suit) up and spend your Saturday frolicking (see what we did there?) on the harbour, listening to Late Nite Tuff Guy (aka ‘The Godfather of Australian Techno’) and his most popular disco edits.
#10. Sydney's Hottest Rooftop Opens At Intercontinental Hotel
Double Bay’s exclusive rooftop bar at The Intercontinental Hotel has reopened and it’s got all the makings of a luxe Mediterranean day club. Spend your day by the pool, then show off your tan in true VIP style come dusk.
