The Sesh Mafia team - the hospo heavyweights behind Shui, Margot’s and Papi Katsu - quietly opened the doors of their newest venue, Lupe’s Cerveceria, over the weekend, bringing a new home for mezcal and mischief to Perth. In typical Sesh Mafia fashion, the space is a work of art, giving discotheque-meets-taqueria vibes.
The menu is short, but simple. A handful of tacos, served with salsa and hot sauce, with a polite smattering of elote, taquitos and tostadas to round it out. The drinks menu, however, is extensive. We’re talking more than fifty tequilas, mezcals and raicillas, as well as a plenty of agave based cocktails and beers (which, for $2, you can turn to into michelada with tomato juice and lime). Perth already boasts some great Mexican spots, we’re thinking Lupe’s Cerveceria might just give them a run for their money.

Perth CBD Has A New Sandwich Deli Slinging Beef Dip Rolls And Italian Focaccias
Image credit: QT Perth | Supplied
QT Perth has already made a name for itself in the Italian scene thanks to their vibrant Italian diner that draws inspo form the Amalfi Coast, with fresh WA seafood front and centre. Now, they're turning their attention to the streets of Italy, with a new inhouse deli serving a delectable lineup of housemade paninis and sandwiches curated by Culinary Creative Lead Nic Wood and newly appointed Executive Chef Jake Lynch.
There'll be classic contis piled high with sliced meats and cheese, fluffy focaccias filled with crispy chicken cotoletta, and classic grilled cheese sourdough toasties alongside breakfast muffins and assorted bombolini.
The beef dip is definitely topping our must-try list though. Just picture lashings of shaved roast beef, provolone cheese and mustard aoli on a crusty roll, served with a beef consume dip.
You can pick up freshly made sangas to go or do like the Italians do and enjoy with an espresso or a glass of wine in the lavish lobby area.
Bagel O's Second Location Swings Open Its Doors
Image credit: Bagel O's | Instagram
If you're a fan of American-style bagels, you'll already be familiar with Bagel O's. The lines out the door of their Mount Lawley cafe are a dead giveaway that these hefty treats have reached cult status. And with two years of hype under their belt, it seemed only right to spread the Bagel O's love and open a second outlet.
Taking up shop on Rokeby Road in Subiaco, the new cafe follows the same original recipe that's earned them such a loyal fanbase—slick branding, damn good food and killer coffee delivered by a team who genuinely love what they do. As part of the new venue launch, they've also dropped a new release of branded Bagel O's caps... we have a feeling it won't last too long.

Down South Is About To Score A New Italian Dining Experience At One Of Our Fave Wineries
Image credit: Masseria Restaurant | Website
Set to fling open its doors right in time for Spring 2024, our beloved Margs wine region is about to welcome a self-proclaimed 'relaxed yet refined Italian dining experience' at Cherubino Wines. Masseria (roughly translating to 'the farmhouse') promises to take diners on a culture immersion to the Mediterranean—think house-made focaccia, each season's most local and seasonal antipasti, plus a range of homemade pastas, Bistecca Fiorentina and whole Augusta Nannygai to savour. There's also talk of some of the region's very best tiramisu and other authentic classic desserts done immaculately.
With chef Ben Jacob from Lagoon Yallingup at the helm, we're expecting this all-day menu to sing on the plate with each dish almost as beautiful as the stellar vineyard views out those towering floor to ceiling windows. Come for an alfresco vino and share plate (or three) on a balmy summer arvo or treat yourself to an all-out splurge before walking off lunch around the lush garden surrounds. Keep your eyes peeled on their socials for updated opening dates as we know we sure will be.
Freo's Newest Brunch Spot Is A Scandi Dream Infused With Fine Dining Finesse
Image credit: Elske | Danica Zuks
Elske (translating to “with love”) is the latest cafe opening from Sean Marshall and Kristina Jensen, the talented couple responsible for the revamp of Cambridge Corner in Wembley.
If Cambridge Corner isn’t ringing any bells for you, it really should be. Since the pair took it over, the charming cafe has consistently ranked in our 50 best Perth breakfast list. It's unique yet timeless menu always impresses and Jensen and Marshall’s background in fine dining is likely a big reason why. We’re keen to see that fine touch carry through to their latest hospitality love child, Elske.
Taking cues from Jensen’s Danish heritage, Elske champions Scandi-inspired delights with a dedicated smørrebrød menu at its heart. Picture: dark rye bread piled high with your topping of choice—from house gravad lax (cured salmon) and rare roast beef fillet to slow-cooked pork belly, potato salad and more.
Zooming out, the wider menu has a load of modern brunch plates vying for your attention. Burrata on toast with buttery mushrooms, charred broccolini and walnut pesto; brioche french toast loaded with roasted rhubarb, strawberry, elderflower and soft serve gelato (bacon optional); poached eggs on crispy hashbrowns, all dripping in bearnaise sauce—yeah, good luck choosing here.
You'll find Elske in the historic Manning Buildings in the High Street Mall, with interiors keeping with the Scandi theme—think: light and airy with plenty of leafy plants and warm timber tones.
For now they're keeping things simple with all day brunch from 7am to 3pm daily, but keep your eyes peeled, 'cause they did mention that dinners and drinks are on the cards down the line.
The Black Truffle Has Had A Glow Up, Adding All-Day Pizzas, Fresh Interiors And After-Dark Trade
Image credit: The Black Truffle (before revamp) | Instagram
North Freo’s one-stop-shop for serious sandwiches, coffees-to-go, deli meats, pantry staples, and ready-made meals is now adding freshly-made pizzas into the mix. After some major renovations, The Black Truffle has reopened as a family-friendly gourmet deli and pizzeria, slinging slices alongside its usual goodies from morning ‘til night.
Chef Nelly Mikolajczak is leading the kitchen team with pizza maestro Matteo Armeni making magic in the brand spankin’ Zanolli Citizen oven, imported from Italy to ensure the perfect, puffy pizza bases and fluffy house-baked bread loaves each and every time.
The Mediterranean-inspired menu features the fresh, seasonal, local produce that we’ve come to expect from the North Freo staple, with the pizza menu loaded with not-so-typical toppings—think truffle and porcini pizza; lemon pizzetta with lemon curd, crème fraîche and fresh basil; and oozing brie, ham and rocket pizza buns.
Now a family affair, new additions also include a dedicated kids corner, dine-in BYO and plenty of gluten-free and vegan options but don’t worry, you’ll still be able to swing by for one of their iconic sangas, a piping hot cup of Joe and grab-and-go meals during the day.
Fremantle Fires Up With A Brand New Restaurant Celebrating The Iconic Aussie Barbie
The team behind Cosy Del’s and Laika will soon open the doors to Cassia, a love letter to the classic Australian barbeque in the heart of Freo. Focussed around the venue's open kitchen, multi award-winning Head Chef Emily Jones has created a fire-fuelled menu where share-style smoked meats, fresh seafood and seasonal veg are front and centre. It won’t be open until July 25 but we’ve already got our eyes on the charcoal-infused beef tartare with shallots, capers and chilli; and the wood-fired O’Connor beef rib drizzled in beef jus.
On the drinks front, there’ll be solely WA wines (including drops from the nearby Urban Winery’s H&C Wine), plus locally-brewed craft beers and a generous range of botanical cocktails, intentionally crafted to bring out the bold, smokey flavours of the wood-fired dishes.
From next week you’ll be able to take a seat on the alfresco area with an open roof on balmy Freo nights, or reserve the private dining room for intimate occasions.
Nedlands Scores A New Eatery From The Team Behind Some-day and Ol’ Buoy (With Freshly Baked Goods From Teeter Pastries)
Teeter loyalists, sit tight: you’ll soon be able to get your hands on Teeter’s basque cheesecake, croissants and a whole lot more in Nedlands with the imminent opening of Kith.
As Ol’ Buoy’s summer season came to an end, husband and wife team (and hospitality pros) Jess Chisari-Sneeuwjagt and Joel Sneeuwjagt (who previously owned some-day too) were on the hunt for their next venture when they found a vacant lot on the corner of Nedlands and Shenton Park. Transforming an empty space into a warm, welcoming all-day spot, Kith (referring to one’s friends, neighbours, and the familiar pleasures of one’s native land) is set to provide locals with a place to come together and enjoy good food and better company.
Honing in on the duo’s Sicilian and Chinese heritage, the menu will include beloved family recipes that have been passed down for generations. There’ll also be made-to-order sandwiches on house-made focaccia, specialty coffee and boozy drinks alongside your classic brunch staples.
Opening mid-August on Aberdare Street, stay up to date on @kith_eatery.

In somewhat of a full circle moment, Jamie Wolfe (co-owner, Obi Coffee) returns to a coffee haunt he used to manage—taking over the much-loved Myrtle Ivy space in West Leedy. They've given the cafe a lovely little revamp and a new name—Slow Daze—and brought their signature brews and cabinet eats with them. Drop past and you'll find locals have wasted no time welcoming them to the hood—there always seems to be a decent crowd hanging out front.

Image credit: Kuld Creamery | Rae Fallon
When the temp finally drops, nothing comes close to digging into a classic crumble topped with hot custard and vanilla ice cream. The legends behind Kuld Creamery are launching a special new crumble menu, with two iconic flavours to choose from: spiced apple or stewed berry. Both are topped with toasty golden shortbread crumble, velvety smooth custard, and finished with a scoop of Kuld’s artisanal ice cream. Drool. Find it at both their Fremantle and Northbridge stores.
Tommy Tacos New Restaurant Is Taking You To The Deep South
Chef Tomas Bidios—the legend behind Highgate's popular Mexican pop-up, Tommy Tacos—has his sights set on the old Homme spot in Highgate, with a sleek new restaurant, Lo, now open.
This time he's bringing us a Southern-style beat inspired by the same mammoth American trip that spawned his love of Mexican eats, all backed up by local, seasonal produce.
In the kitchen, there's a massive wood fire oven, so he's keen to inject some firey, smokey flavours into the menu while still keeping things refined, with plenty of elevated shares infused with southern flair. Think devil egg hash browns, buttermilk biscuits and fried chicken, and a spin on shrimp and grits washed down with dark spirits or a blackberry-infused mint julep.
On weekends, you can head in early for a hangover-busting brekky with American comfort eats like fried chicken and waffles and steak with fried egg and gravy on offer. And don't even get us started on the make-your-own bloody mary menu.

It's Straight Fire At Fallow, Northbridge's New Open-Flame Hotspot
Image Credit: Fallow | Jacqueline van Grootel
Fire-kissed cuisine is what it's all about at Fallow Liquor and Eatery, Northbridge's new multi-level tavern brought to us by some of Perth's most leading restaurateurs.
Chef Stuart Laws, of Brown Street Grill notoriety, has joined forces with Daniel Sterpini and Joel Beresford, the team behind Victoria Park craft beer hub Dutch Trading Co., to launch the impressive 248-capacity heritage pub.
Laws says, “Every dish is a testament to the artistry of open-flame cooking."
"It’s exciting to have such a special kitchen set-up that allows our culinary team to pack a real flavour punch with everything we plate up. It blends the very best of modern and old-school cooking, and I hope diners find both comfort and intrigue in their meals here.”
A wood-fired oven and hearth built from 120-year-old bricks and a unique meat vault showcasing dry-aged cuts are at the heart of Fallow, both figuratively and literally. Laws has curated a menu that harnesses this fire power—highlights include dry-aged steaks, Carnarvon pink snapper crudo and ood-grilled Maitaki mushrooms with black garlic aioli and grilled lime.
There is a separate menu for snacks and charcuterie, while the cafe will be serving up premium sandwiches, baguettes and focaccia alongside cakes, slices and pastries.
An Adorable New Cakery Has Landed In Freo: We're Already Drooling Over The Passionfruit Sponge Cake
Image credit: Aunty Lucy's Cakery | Louise Coghill
After four years of slinging the finest biccies, cakes and slices at farmer's markets across town, and even longer honing her culinary skills in Melbourne and abroad, Pastry Chef Lucy Cosgriff (aka The Well Rested Baker) has finally found a cosy, sun-filled space to call home. And what a beauty it is!
Opening at 132 High St (across from Gypsy Tapas Bar) this weekend, Aunty Lucy's Cakery is a bright, little haven of sugar, spice and all things nice wrapped in a colourful floral mural and filled with art, cups and saucers and the odd peacock motif.
"The whole vibe of Aunty Lucy's is afternoon tea at Grandma's house," explains Lucy. "Except if Grandma was a pastry chef," she laughs.
The menu will change often, but Lucy told us she'll be doing her much-loved passionfruit sponge cake and cherry pie for the opening weekend, along with plenty of other elevated classics.
High teas are very much on the cards at Aunty Lucy's too (stay tuned), but for now, she's keeping things simple with cakes and pies by the slice, biscuits, choccie slices and more to enjoy in the cosy cafe or under the large tree outside with a beaut cup of coffee from local roasters Karvan Coffee. Plus, there'll also be some savouries around too (you know, just in case you're sweet enough already) and whole cakes available for pre-order.
Aunty Lucy's will be open from 9am til 4pm, filling that post-2 pm cafe gap in the market. Drop by this weekend for a cake and a cuppa.
