You’ve all been so busy being hip and cool! Don’t worry, we’ve noticed. While the whole of Brisbane has been out living it up, we’ve been keeping tabs on the hottest spots and the most popular haunts among our readers.
Odds are you’ve already been to every one of these joints, this very special round up is reader’s choice. These are the businesses in our Directory it seems you couldn't get enough of this month, read on to see how many of your favourites are equally beloved by our glorious city.
Here are YOUR picks of what’s hot in Brisbane:
Eating & Drinking
In recent months the Brisbane burger scene has really upped its game. It’s getting out of hand. Roosting in the CBD on George St, and stacked against some pretty stiff competition, Miss Kay’s holds her own. With dirty fries and a Mac ‘n Cheese burger on offer, it’s no wonder Brisbaners are flocking by the thousands to this new bar/burger joint.
Time-honoured brunch favourite, Sourced Grocer, has a little brother. He just popped up in South Brisbane and is charming the locals like a regular Don Juan with all day breakfast, Supreme coffee, and a people-watching perch for everyone’s inner voyeur. Since Sourced’s refurbishment and ensuing luncheon glory Gauge is the latest frontier across the creek, and it looks like everyone is loving it sick.
Heya is a shady and mysterious character that haunts a secluded spot below ground on the Brunswick strip. Inside is a maelstrom of live DJ sets and Brisbane’s hippest kidlets letting their hair down. Heya's cheeseburger spring rolls have piqued your interest and all four bars have been thumping since open. From them and us we’d like to thank you for so much habitual drinking.
These guys just set up shop in Greenslopes, doing everything and doing it well. Big bites can chow through their burger menu (see, I told you the burger sitch is out of control), and smaller bites can get their rocks off with the drink food menu, which is sometimes for enticing than the burgs #blasphemy. With ginger pepper caramel wings (Buffalo is so March), 5 Boroughs is the crazy hip new joint we can’t get enough of.
Health & Beauty
We’ve been hard at work eating and drinking our way around town so our inevitable health kick is looming. Thank Juno for the wonderkids at Q Pilates to get us back into shape. With reformer, mat, and barre classes, there’s plenty to set your core on fire and ensure that you never get bored.
From the tips of your fingers to the ends of your hair, the GHD-wielding beauty battalion at Blow Salon has got your every aesthetic fancy covered. A few short hours in their capable claws and you’ll be like post-makeover Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada, ie. bangin.
Make no mistake, when you walk your sorry mop into Lila Boheme they will exercise neither restraint nor mercy. The straight talking sharp shooters are on a mission and they come armed with scissors and spray. They will DO your hair, and it will be good.
College of Natural Beauty
Even Brisbane’s impoverished scholars need to look fly. For a hefty discount you can be guinea pig for a talented beauty student and get all manner of therapies and pamperings for a song, which makes maintenance a snap. College of Natural Beauty's beauty products are also all 100% organic so your inner Earth-goddess can rest easy.
At the prow of Brisbane fashion for over 35 years, Camargue is where trendsetters go to get their trend on. Stocked with International brands like Dries Van Noten, Être Cécile, Haider Ackermann, Mother of Pearl, Band of Outsiders, and Stella Jean, Camargue is the ideal place for fashion you can’t find anywhere else in Brisbane.
With all our rampant running around, it’s sometimes hard to remember that we have homes that need our attention. Make mellow nights in (and mornings in the breakfast nook) that much more appealing by swinging by Ambience Store and furnishing your digs with rad things you can flop onto when you roll in at quarter-past three in the morning.
A certifiable mecca of innovative and functional design, Space is the place to go for out-the-box home styling inspiration. We recommend losing yourself in the Space showroom for at least four solid hours before lugging home a wild variety of findings to make your abode that bit more stylin’.
Flying the flag for publishable pleasures, the Avid Reader is so named because it is staffed by a small legion of Brisbane’s best literarians. All the books are handpicked and every section is well stocked with the finest tomes in Brisbane. The very best place to go for books of every kind, so no wonder it’s trending.
