Point Chev, you're one lucky 'burb! Not only has there been a number of new cafes open to tickly those tastebuds, it also recently became home to the cutest little store in town—Mars Salt and Sweet!
This little spot is curing all your picnic woes in one fell swoop. Owner, Victoria Hardy Mar, has carefully curated a store dedicated to only the best Kiwi artisan products (albeit a few international contenders such as sardines thanks to a non-existent national offering).
With more than 100 suppliers, there’s everything from beautiful and interesting cheeses, organic breads, fresh herbs to fruit, dips and pâtés. Basically, envision your dream picnic hamper and you’ll find it on the shelves here.
Hungry right now? Feast on one of their beautiful pastries, Heaven Scent pies—beef and blue cheese, chicken, coconut and cashew or braised pork belly, anyone? Wash it all down with one of their three vegetable juices or try their freshly squeezed tangelo juice thanks to a specially imported machine all the way from Spain. Or, order one of their iced coffees or chocolates or try their Eightthirty drip coffee. Add milk from a selection at a special hub—almond, organic or cream.
And, you’ll be easily cooled down with their mouth-watering array of Charlie’s Gelato. Produced in Matakana, these artisan ice creams are jammed-packed with locally grown fruits and specially imported nuts. Mars Salt and Sweet even came up with their own flavour that is sure to satisfy.
But, what’s really made this new store so special? Being a local herself, Victoria has unbeknowingly created a community hub, if you will. It has quickly become a place where the neighbourhood gather to meet, exchange stories and get to know each other. It definitely has a friendly vibe!
So, make sure you check for high tide, plan a group picnic and wander down to Point Chev beach. You’re certainly in for a treat Yogi himself would be envious of.
