Everybody, stop what you're doing and pay attention! Gelato Messina (aka home of the best gelato in Sydney—and the world!) have officially opened a dessert bar. Sure, ice cream and gelato are technically dessert (they can also be breakfast, lunch, and dinner, if you're that way inclined), but what makes the Messina Dessert Bar special is that they are serving up insanely creative soft-serve sundaes from the former Messina Creative Department store in Darlinghurst.
But what flavours are there? How can I create my own? Why aren't I there right now? Settle down, you guys! While we can't instantly transport you to Messina, getting your hands on a custom-made dessert is a fairly straightforward 3-step process once you're there. And it goes a little something like this:
1. Choose a cup, cone, or carb
2. Pick your soft-serve gelato (this month it's burnt vanilla or Fanta sorbet)
3. Select a few of over 20 toppings and additions, from foams to gels, fudges, nuts, and crunchy things
If you want to leave it up to the gelato gods, go for one of their suggested sundaes. Some of the delicious offerings include Honey I Burnt The Kids, which has burnt vanilla gelato with burnt honey mousse, smoked butter popcorn, and smoked chocolate fudge, all served in a cup, and The Trailer Trash Brunch, which consists of a crepe-lined cup that's filled with Fanta sorbet and burnt vanilla gelato with Cointreau set custard, mandarin tuile, and mandarin gel. Our hearts are beating a little faster just thinking about it.
Being Gelato Messina in Sydney, we know the lines are going to be long. But we also know that it's going to be worth it. So… We'll see you in the queue?
