Stop with the Netflix and *chill* dates, guys. We know it’s cold but that is no excuse to get lazy with your dates. We’ve come up with some date ideas for the winter months, to get you out of your fuzzy dressing gowns and into something a liittttle more exciting than re-watching Chef’s Table.
Things to do in Sydney that are romantic and warm? Yeah, we got you.
Movie Night At Golden Age Cinema
We know the temptation to just wait until you can download (legally, obviously) all the best movies is strong, but this cute little cinema tucked away in Surry Hills is the perfect rainy night date spot. Showing all the best classics, cults, creepies and new releases, pop in early for a cocktail at the bar or grab a couple before you head home. Date night sorted.
Get Arty After Hours At The Art Gallery of NSW
Every Wednesday, The Art Gallery of NSW stays open late for all you romantic night owls. Feast on a share plate of slow roasted lamb and enjoy a few wines at CHISWICK at the Gallery before making your way into the halls which are open until 10pm. It’s a dinner date and a culture date rolled into one.
Skates On At Macquarie Ice Rink
While we love a nice dinner, there is almost nothing more entertaining than watching your loved one fumble on ice once they’ve finally ventured away from the wall. Why not challenge them to a contest as to who can stay upright the longest? We promise there will be many LOLs and even good abs as a result. If accidentally plowing into kids isn’t your thing, we suggest going to Macquarie Ice Rink from 7-9pm so you can try to impress without being shown up by someone half your size.
Cosy Drinks At The Lord Dudley
Grab a couch by an open fire, pick up one of the board games scattered around the bar, and get competitive. The satisfaction that comes with beating your loved one in a game of Scrabble is brag-worthy for at least a week afterwards and there is an extensive list of drinks for them to buy you as the loser. The Lord Dudley in Paddington is one of the cosiest pubs in Sydney and is the perfect place to get romantically competitive.
Old School Fun At Coney Island In Luna Park
For just $10 (hey there, cheap date) you can spend a few hours on a cold and rainy day racing around Coney Island, going up and down the slides as many times as you wish. The best date spot to work off all off the winter carbs? We think yes. Plus, you can get a good couple pic at the Luna Park entrance, because who doesn’t love being a tourist in their own city?
Sing Out Your Love At Karaoke
Grab a few of your coupled-up friends and head down to Surry Hills for a group date night where you can eat some of the best gyoza and yakitori in town before fulfilling all of your duet dreams on all the best pop classics a la “A Whole New World” and “I Got You, Babe”. If you’re feeling adventurous (or you've had a little too much sake) why not delve into the catalogue of Japanese and K-pop artists?
Carb Load At Fratelli Fresh
Winter basically gives us the green light for stocking up on all the carbs. Head down to one of the always awesome Fratelli Fresh restaurants around Sydney and recreate the Lady And The Tramp moment that you dreamt about as a child over a bowl of homemade spaghetti. We guarantee your date will love it.
Brunch Time At The Grounds Of Alexandria
A Sydney fave, you’ve probably already been here, but have you been to The Grounds Of Alexandria for a wholesome brunch date? Pop in early to get your name on the list and then go pick up some flowers for your significant other while you wait. Win!
Wine Us Up At The Wine Room In The Dolphin Hotel
The Wine Room at The Dolphin Hotel is the next best thing for when your romantic weekend away to the Hunter Valley falls through, or if you and bae just really, really love wine. Choose from a selection of over 150 bottles, get a charcuterie to match and catch up on each other's weeks at this cool new spot in Surry Hills.
