Sundays, they’re good for two things: long lunching and afternoon brews. Whether you’re fighting off that inevitable hangover, or you’re enjoying drawing out the weekend (FYI, Monday is also inevitable), we’d be hard pressed to find anything else we’d like to be doing with our precious weekend down time. And that’s why when we heard The Sackville Hotel was going to be playing host to an intimate long lunch that was to be carefully matched with premium craft beer and Tasmanian wines, we didn’t need much convincing to add this one to the diary.

Mark July 31st in your calendars, people, because this is the perfect way to celebrate the end of the month. Not sure what we’re celebrating? Good food, epic brews and wine, of course—need we have any other motive?
The lunch marks the second of its kind at the pub in Balmain, where head chef Tim Frietas has worked his magic on developing a menu that complements the selection of premium Australian-made beer and wines. Tim suggest guests should ‘come hungry’, as he prepares a four course meal that will showcase the revered Sackville menu, predominantly focusing on quality meats and seafood. There will also be a combination of two iconic Tasmanian brands to add a liquid refreshment to the menu.

Hailing from just north of Hobart, Moorilla wines are making a show this time around, with the Praxis Sauvignon Blanc partnered with roasted beets, fetta and watercress kicking things off, followed by a main of grass fed tenderloin teamed with the famous Praxis Pinot Noir known for its easy drinking (uh oh) and new age wine making techniques.

For those who prefer beers of the craft variety, there’s no room for disappointment here, with other Tassie locals Moo Brew heading up the selection to heighten the experience. There’ll be a range of the pilsner, Hefeweizen and dark ale available to try on the day, teamed with things like Salt and pepper bugs, kim chi cucumbers, wasabi mayo and our favourite part, the Chocolate fudge brownie. Sign. Us. Up.

The event will see beer aficionados, wine connoisseurs and foodies band together at this popular inner west venue for a relaxed afternoon of eating and drinking—two things we know all too well. Ensuring guests are able to relish in the full Tasmanian experience, there will even be bespoke styling and a few surprises planned for the day.
