Where To Play Two-Up In Sydney

By Lucy Cook
15th Apr 2015

ANZAC Day is the only day of the year we can legally play two-up. Even if you don’t know how to play (it’s pretty much just gambling on Heads and Tails) there are plenty of great Sydney pubs to get in on the action.

Miranda Hotel

The great folks at the Miranda Hotel have a whole bunch of exciting plans for ANZAC day, including plenty of two-up action and a tasty breakfast from 8am. There’ll also be live acoustic singers from midday to keep your ears happy and an ANZAC inspired menu (from 12pm till late), to keep your stomach satisfied. Sounds pretty good to us… To the south we go!

Dove & Olive

Surry Hills

Two-up, pub grub and craft beer, the Dove & Olive has it all this ANZAC Day. We’re pretty excited about the double decker Aussie burger and the lamb and rosemary sausages, washed down with Hills Cider and $5 AB Pilsner. If you’re feeing lucky, there will also be a raffle drawn with a wheelbarrow full of tinnies to be won.

Harpoon Harry

Surry Hills

This Saturday Harpoon Harry are celebrating the 100th anniversary of ANZAC Day with live music from 10am and two-up all day long. There will be $5 schooners and an all Aussie sausage sizzle to your hunger at bay.

The Bristol Arms

Open from 10am until late, The Bristol Arms is ready to commemorate the Diggers with a gold coin donation for Diggers Breaky BBQ and Karma Keg, with all proceeds going to The Commando Welfare Trust. The two-up will be running all day long, three floors up… Because the only thing better than playing two-up on ANZAC Day is playing it on the rooftop of a pub.

The Australian Heritage Hotel

The Australian Heritage Hotel boasts the largest outdoor two-up arena in the CBD, so you can be sure that the game will be hardcore and fun. There is a Diggers Breakfast from 7am as well as all the usual beer and banter this Sydney pub has to offer.

Manly Wharf Hotel

Nothing says “‘Straya” quite like spending ANZAC Day on the water with your mates. The Manly Wharf Hotel will be playing two-up on the jetty and serving $16 jugs of James Squire One-Fifty Lashes all day. As the sun sets the DJs will hit the decks and have you up and dancing all night long.

Beach Road Hotel

It’s free entry into Beach Road Hotel for ANZAC Day and they are really pulling out all the stops. The two-up will be an event in itself with plenty of time for fun and games before retiring to the dance floor, with a killer line-up of DJs including Acaddamy, Chris Fraser and Samrai.

The Beresford Hotel

Surry Hills

The Beresford is the only Merivale venue hosting two-up this ANZAC Day, and it’s sure to go off. Drag queen, Maxi Shields, will be hosting the coin tossing and all the regular fun and great food of The Beresford will be on offer. Snag a spot in the courtyard and it will be a very pleasant day indeed.

Hunters Hill Hotel

Hunters Hill

The very sunny Hunters Hill Hotel is sure to be a lovely place to spend your ANZAC Day, open from 8am with two-up commencing from Midday. Be sure to grab some of the great food the bistro serves up and enjoy the live entertainment, starting from 7pm.

The Argyle

In the heart of The Rocks, The Argyle is always a popular venue to spend ANZAC Day, with games of two-up keeping you entertained for the few moments when you’re not eating, drinking or making friends with the always-sociable Argyle-crowd.

Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel

Watsons Bay

For the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli, Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel are going all out and hosting the largest ANZAC Day celebration they have done to date. Starting at midday, there will be rounds of two-up in Beach Club overlooking the beachfront complete with bagpipes, the local navy band, and DJs keeping the music covered throughout the day.

The Royal Leichhardt

It’s always a fun time at The Royal Leichardt and ANZAC Day will be no exception. From 1pm to 6pm there will be two-up in the main bar and then live music from 9pm – the perfect way to commemorate with a bevvy outside in the beer garden.

The Glenmore

Open from 8am, The Glenmore are going full True Blue this ANZAC Day, with cold beer, an Aussie BBQ and two-up from midday. The celebrations will span across all three floors with the amazing rooftop always a favourite, so get in early and stake out your spot!

There will be ANZAC Day menus featuring a range of classic Aussie pub grub, like the Diablo chicken burger with smoked cheese, slaw and spicy mayo, or a beef pie with roast garlic mash.
