Soul Burger
Vegans of the west will be happy to hear that the—until recently—Eastside (and Inner Westside) burger joint is headed to Parra. This is the place to take your meat-loving friends if you want to trick them, because while the menu describes the ‘meat’ as plant-based throughout, it is very much vegan. Our top pick is the classic cheeseburger, made with plant-based beef, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, tomato relish and mustard aioli.
Sushi Tei
Sushi Tei has been a staple in the Sydney sushi scene since the 1980’s, so it’s safe to say that a trip to this sushi train restaurant is basically a no-brainer. The house specialties are impressive, like the hotate miso yayo roll of seared scallops on a savoury parcel of fresh avo and rice with a burst of special miso mayonnaise, and the salmon wafu carpaccio, which involves delicate slices of raw salmon finished with pops of ginger and chilli.
Kenny Rens
There's no such thing as too much sashimi, which is why we couldn't be more excited about the arrival of Kenny Rens on Queen Street in Woollahra. The trendy new Japanese eatery features a sashimi bar and robata grill, so you can stuff yourself silly with only the freshest raw fish every night of the week.

As seems to be the road quite frequently travelled by hot chefs in Sydney, chef Luke Mangan has opened up his first of five organic burger joints Australia wide, the first launching in Sydney's Chifley Square food court. Mangan, who leads the team at Hilton’s glass Brasserie, has an extensive list under his belt, managing 19 restaurants across five countries, as well as the food offering for Virgin Australia’s Business Class and P&L Cruise Ships.
12-Micron
Sitting pretty in one of the best spots at Barangaroo, you’ll find the super slick 12-Micron. Boasting views over Sydney harbour, this 230-seater restaurant, late-night dessert kitchen, and luxe bar is unlike any other.

It’s no secret that we love a good rooftop bar, especially when it helps us combine a little bit of sightseeing, with sitting on our bums and sipping cocktails. Well, No.1 William is one of those kinds of places, sitting on level 4 of the iconic Australian Museum, this 180-seat restaurant boast floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor terrace that overlooks Hyde park and Sydney Harbour.
The Italian Bowl
If the line of excited and hungry faces queuing outside the always-teeming Italian Bowl every single night isn’t convincing enough to join the line, then one glimpse at food coming over the pass will. Sydney has welcomed its newest and cutest Japanese joint, Konakara, sitting tight on the corner of Fitzroy Street in Surry Hills. Konakara specialises in simple Japanese food done well, and it’s the perfect spot for a quick lunchtime bite or cosy date night meal.
Burger Project
Australian icon Neil Perry’s Burger Project is openingup in Parramatta’s restaurant district on Friday 10 March. Have all your sustainable, hormone and antiobiotic-free burger cravings met by the beef sourced from Cape Grim in Tasmania. Sandwiched between Breadtop buns, the hand-minced chuck and brisket comes with classic fillings like pickles, cheese, and slow-cooked beetroot, but also cheffy surprises like rose mayonnaise.

Driven by their passion for one-off statements, the Waverly treasure has hopped on the pre-loved bandwagon, and it’s all available online too, so you don’t even need to leave the house to spend up a storm.

Nahji Chu (of former Miss Chu glory), is undertaking a new pursuit, and boi oh boi we couldn’t be more excited. Cha Li Boi, is revamping yum cha in allll the right ways. But what’s wrong with the current Chinese-styled brunch, you ask? For Chu, this question would probably be answered with ‘It’s outdated’. Which is why she and her team are throwing a spanner in the wok’s (see what we did there?).
Saltie
The newest kids on the Surry Hills coffee block, Saltie is serving up burgers, brews, bowls and a pretty great crushed avo on toast. Their beans are by Gabriel coffee, which is always a winner in our books, and their crushed avo is served on sourdough with a tahini crema, sesame a wedge of lemon and we recommend you add a poached egg, crispy kale, or both. If you think more is more (join the club), then order the egg in a hole, which is a baked brioche, stuffed with egg, cheese and optional ham.

Golden Lotus
Let’s face it, giant bowls of vegan pho and tofu stir-fries from Golden Lotus in Sydney’s Newtown are all that we crave when it’s cold out, or when we just need a warm hug from the inside. You better get in early, because Golden Lotus is often packed out, which is to be expected when vegetarian fried dumplings and vegan fish (whaaaaat!) is on the menu.
Little Miss Collins
Little Miss Collins is the newest café to join the always-growing Parramatta café scene and this is one place you need to add to your go-to Parramatta cafe hit list ASAP. All seating is outdoors so you sitting in the sunshine while vibing the farm themed café (they even have a chicken coop!) is not only encouraged, but literally mandatory.
The Dessert Kitchen
If you’re a fan of sweet (and downright strange) desserts, Dessert Kitchen is about to become your go-to. We mean it when we say they have everything your sweet tooth could possible want. There are classic parfaits filled with cocoa crisps, crushed Oreo and chocolate pearls, to pistachio crust and corn flakes; and sundaes that are a little more out there. Exhibit A is the dancing queen, with a base of milk pudding layered with mini rice balls and red beans, topped with green tea ice cream.
Efendy Restaurant
With its mix of urban and traditional influences, Turkish cuisine doesn't come more authentic than at Balmain's Efendy Restaurant. With a menu inspired by emerging foodie trends from Istanbul, this is one to BYO stretchy pants. Serving an award-winning Turkish breakfast, lunch and dinner alongside an extensive wine list, you're in for a whole lot of Turkish deliciousness. Using local and sustainable produce, this is the kind of place that's perfect for sharesies.
Harry’s Singapore Chilli Crab
In case the name doesn’t give it away—Harry’s Singapore Chilli Crab is a Haymarket fave who serves some of the most hottest crab in Sydney. They’re known for their Singapore Chilli Crab, which comes slathered in a thick and spicy sauce and it is serious business.
The Nielsen
Located in Sydney’s waterside suburb of Vaucluse, The Neilsen is all about water views and fine dining. The restaurant is serving up contemporary Australian-Italian dishes, with fresh seafood and a surprising variety of incredible vegan and vegetarian menu options. That got your attention didn’t it?

Johnny Fontane’s
Finally, Chicago deep dish has landed in Sydney. Between us, we couldn’t be more excited that we only have to travel to Darlinghurst for a sweet, cheesy slice of pie. Executive Chef Cy Gwynne (formerly of Longrain and Café Sydney) is backing up the deep dish with pasta, antipasto, arancini balls, cannoli and gelato. So yeah, this feast will be epic!

After a few years on the Sydney food market scene, Belly Bao settled into a permanent home at Goodgod Small Club, feeding hungry drinkers and trivia enthusiasts alike. Nutie Donuts
Nutie Donuts have been making the rounds on the farmers market and food truck festival scene for a while in Sydney and now, Balmain locals (and anyone that will travel for doughnuts—all of you) will have a brick and mortar store to visit daily. The best part is that Nutie bakes with only the highest quality gluten free ingredients and they also have dairy free and vegan options, so anyone with intolerances will leave, full, happy and on an extreme sugar high.

Another insanely Instagrammable café has graced the Lower North Shore of Sydney, with Castlecrag’s latest eatery, Back & Forth—a haven for health food lovers and brunch addicts alike. They have all kinds of bowls from deconstructed acai bowl that is the excuse you’ve been looking for to eat ice cream for breakfast—scoops of acai ‘nicecream’ are placed on a pretty blue plate, covered by RAWnola and topped fresh fruit.
NOLA Smokehouse & Bar
Inspired by the New Orleans, NOLA Smokehouse & Bar serves top-cut meats cooked to perfection with southern-style roasting. Think dry aged beef brisket, smoked and pulled pork shoulder and spit roasted lamb served with simple slaw or BBQ spiced garlic corn on the side. To perfect your Friday night, NOLA has a strong drink menu to match, including a wide selection of American whisky, wines and cocktails (we’ve got our eye on the Ramos gin fizz).

The Balmain café scene just got a whole lot cooler, with it’s newest addition to Darling Street—Mr. and it doesn’t disappoint. They’ll appease your inner coffee-craving monster (hey, no judgement) with Will & Co. coffee beans that are roasted on-site, and they’ve got a short but sweet menu to match. Mr. also serves up their refreshing alcoholic beverages from 10am, if you’re after a different kind of pick-me-up with your brekky (again, no judgement).
Silly Tart Kitchen
This cute little kitchen brings homemade country-style dishes to the city, with a modern twist on flavour combinations. Their avocado definitely isn’t boring, topped with pickled ginger, honey and toasted sesame, plus their piklets, which are paired with orange syrup, toasted coconut, Turkish delight, candied ginger and natural yoghurt. See, we said they were twisting things up.
Sotto Sopra
Sydney knows good Italian, which is why we’re beyond excited about the opening of Sotto Sopra at Palm Beach.
Mug Life
Pyrmont Café, Mug Life, is a 90’s-themed café complete with Tupac mural and basketball hoop—and doughnuts are their thing. You’ll be have you going there for more than just coffee and, to be honest, coffee is that last thing we want when Dr Doughnuts and specialty milkshakes are on the menu.

Oh how Leagues Clubs have changed—the Wests Ashfield Club has launched The Garden, a casual eatery that sources some of Australia’s best local produce.
