Directly translated to ‘taco party’ in Spanish, Taqiza is exactly what you’re imagining and everything you need in your life right now. Whether you’re in the mood for an authentic Mexican feast or are ready to dive in deep with some of Taqiza’s (shall we say) more contemporary taco combinations like goat with lime or BBQ salmon and chilli.

Restaurants

Potts point has just welcomed et al. to its ranks with open arms. On the food front, you can expect a menu filled with corkers from Chef Daniel Backhouse, while the space itself oozes cool and casual vibes. Oh, and guess what? It just became your new go-to lunch spot for this summer.

Sydney we’re expecting another little one to join the Boathouse family. We know it’s a big deal. Now holidaymakers and locals of the Central Coast will be able to chow down on seaside goodies whilst enjoying the spectacular views of Patonga beach. Dreams really do come true.

Restaurants

Mr. Liquor Dirty Italian Disco

The drive-in bottle-o at The Tennyson Hotel has had a pretty damn delicious makeover and yes, we’re serious. Mr. Liquor Dirty Italian Disco is effectively a driveway eatery where you’ll swing by the walk-in fridge to pick up your bev, before ordering at the counter and parking yourself (geddit?) at a table on the literal driveway.

Chacha’s

At this point, there are very few things that ice cream can do for us that it hasn’t already done. Basically, it takes something damn extreme to get us excited. Vegan miso caramel ice cream, though? Yeah, that’ll just about do it.

Restaurants

Chicken Confidential

Luke Mangan’s chicken burger restaurant, Chicken Confidential, just had a baby and it’s hanging out at Sydney Airport’s T1 International. Yeah, this is as good as you think.

Cafes

Anvil Cafe & Grocer

Industrial spacious vibes meet all the home comforts—Anvil Cafe & Grocer provides the goods. The fit out is everything we love, with hanging plants, a minimalist colour scheme and modern accents all ‘round. Slot yourself into one of their comfortable lounges, sit back and smell the coffee people, this just became your weekend chill spot.

Restaurants

Loaded By BL

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again—Newtown just keeps getting better and better. First it was the likes of Belly Bao and Holey Moley setting up shop on King Street and now BL Burgers is getting in on the action. We didn’t need another reason to head for Newtown, but hey, we’ll totally take it.

Restaurants

Kusuka

What happens when Indonesian cuisine meets traditional cafe staples? A smorgasbord of delicious flavours is what happens . Kusuka in Haymarket sits happily on the spectrum of Indo-meets-Western food and FYI, their food is damn good. Think mi goreng noodles topped with gooey poached eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns or just about any other breakfast side you can think of. And before you ask, yes, there’s avocado.

Restaurants

Chula

The old Hugo’s Pizza site has had a facelift and if you’re a lover of Mexican food, this one’s for you. Chula isn't just any old Mexican joint, but instead, it’s taking a more refined take on the casual street food classics. Sitting on Bayswater Road in Kings Cross, this one is going to be damn good.

Fitness

Hot Dog Yoga

Everyone knows the worst thing about yoga is the distinct lack of dogs. Everyone. Well team, a couple of Double Bay locals legends have just opened a brand new yoga studio, and not only have they given it a ridiculously cute name (Hot Dog Yoga), they’ve got a dog receptionist and all of your puppies are welcome. TBH, even if you don’t have a pup, it’s worth heading here for the endless cuddles.

Well team, now there’s an entire café dedicated to your fave guilty pleasure, and yes, your life is officially peaking.

Cafes

Fable Coffee

Darlinghurst has a new neighbourhood café and it’s just become one of our faves. You need to head here if you’re a lover of good food, coffee and vibes (so all of you). But be warned, you’ll be making a repeat visit.

Restaurants

The Italian Bar Pizza

We all know that eating is one of life’s greatest pleasures and the folks at The Italian Willoughby agree. That’s why they’ve gone and created a menu that not only showcases the best of hearty Italian cuisine, but also focuses on health and sustainability. We know, it’s the dream. Here they use organic Australian flour and the dough is fermented for three days, which means that it’s easier to digest and just as delish. The wines are also organic and biodynamic FYI and you should make it your mission to work your way through the entire list. (#doublewin).

Restaurants

Isaac Restaurant

Isaac is an Italian and Middle Eastern fusion that's fresh on the Sydney scene and it’s probably about to become your fave new local dinner spot. Located in Redfern that guy is delivering a fresh, modern take on home classics like grilled chicken and a good ol’ pasta bake. The result? Hearty comfort food oozing rich flavour combos.

Cafes

Tella Balls Shellharbour

The home of the Nutella doughnut cone, Tella Balls, is opening a third store in Shellharbour and we’re damn well excited about it. They’re known for their ‘tella balls’ (aka giant Nutella-filled doughnuts) but trust us when we say that their sugary take on traditionally savoury snacks are downright delicious.

Cafes

Jillian’s Cakery

Jillian's Cakery on Elizabeth Street in Sydney's trendy Surry Hills is a haven of vintage cakes. Seriously this place will give you strong primary school bake sale vibes and remind you of your grandmother's kitchen—cue nostalgia and drooling. Jillian Butler quit her corporate day job to pursue her passion for baking and we couldn't be happier that she did because her cakes and other sweet treats are just what the doctor ordered. Jillian's Cakery offers a serene sanctuary where it's the norm to while away an afternoon sipping on coffee, tucking into delicious slices of cake and being treated like princes and princesses with the great service.

Restaurants

El Topo Cantina

Everyone’s fave staple Mexican eatery, El Topo, is headed to Southwest Sydney, and the expansion means only one thing—more tacos and more tequila. Now, if there’s one thing we absolutely needed more of this week, it’s tacos and tequila.

Restaurants

Sven-San

Sven-San in Paddington is the Japanese and Scandinavian fusion we didn’t know we needed. They’re serving contemporary takes on both, and if there’s one thing we can guarantee, it’s that the menu is packed full of delish fusion seafood dishes.

Cafes

Leaf Cafe & Co.

The Hills is the gift that keeps on giving. New suburbs are popping up on the reg and we don’t mind one bit. Not when it means we have even more cafés to brunch at errry weekend (don’t mind if we damn well do). Leaf Café & Co fits the bill, sitting in a brand new complex in North Kellyville. And the great news is that their menu is on point.

Bars & Pubs

Where’s Nick

When you walk in and see walls lined with bottles and bottles of wine (120 and counting), you know you’re onto a winner. Add in the fact that they’re au natural and you can say CYA to the rest of your afternoon. Speaking of, we’d like to introduce you to our new friend, Where’s Nick.

Health + Wellness

CRYO

We’re willing to try anything once. No really, we are and ICYMI cryotherapy is basically the genie who’ll grant you all of your health wishes. You’ll just have to endure the odd (really, it’s the best word we can think of) sensation for up to two minutes. Sounds simple, huh.

Bars & Pubs

Monkey’s Corner

Monkey’s Corner is a brand new fly-on-the-wall CBD bar serving up damn good cocktails. This one is by the same team behind KOI Dessert Bar (aka The Poernomo Brothers), so you know it’ll be good. The menu is solid, with a substantial selection of spirits, wine and beer, and they’re even serving Orion and Asahi on tap. Yes and yes.

Restaurants

Down N’ Out

Down N' Out Burgers have just opened a new store (their first standalone store, in fact) in Top Ryde. We repeat—Ryde, you just became a bunch of lucky burger-loving humans. The fit-out has a distinct comic book feel and their American-style burgers are nothing short of OTT. Oh, and this is probably the closest you’ll come to an In-N-Out burger outside the US.

Restaurants

Thiq Bar & Eatery

For those days when you want, no need, something just this side of ‘clog my veins with naughtiness’, we give you Thiq Bar & Eatery. That means you’ll be filling your face with a hot pastrami burger for brunch and a not-your-average-schnitty schnitzel for dinner FYI.

Food & Drink

Henri Marc

At the foot of the Blue Mountains in Penrith lies Henri Marc, a cosy café housed in an industrial building opened by husband and wife Sophia and Aaron Bernecki. On the menu is a coffee blend from Surry Hills institution Reuben Hills as well as a daily-changing menu of food by the chef couple. You'll be surprised to find delights like caramel on toast (yes, really) as well your typical breakfast staples with ingredient twists. Oh, and their hot choc is off the chain and served with a cute little skewer of toasted marshmallows.

Bars & Pubs

Bart Jr.

The geniuses behind Scout’s Honour (best sandwiches everrrr) and Morris (ultimate brunch goals) have opened a small bar in Redfern and it needs to jump to the top of your hit list STAT. Bart Jr. is mixing up the menu every three weeks with seasonal food and drink offerings so you can get your paws on alllll of the things. We could tell you how much we love their heartwarming congee or their crispy halloumi topped with burnt honey and roasted hazelnuts, but you’d have to get there real quick, because like we said, their menu is changing all the damn time.

Well, Sydney has just scored a dessert bar dedicated to all things doughnut and we have a feeling that it’s about to get a little bit out of control, in a good way.

Restaurants

Yang’s Dumplings

Yang’s Dumplings is a Shanghainese dumpling Mecca in Burwood, known for making all of their delicious little parcels of joy from scratch. This is their second Sydney outpost and unlike the first, they’re serving more than just sheng jian bao and xiao long bao. The menu here also features other dumpling favourites, like pan fried dumplings (guo tie) and wontons, but our hot tip is to add all of the chilli oil and peanut sauce to everything you order.

Restaurants

Chargrill Charlie’s

Everyone’s favourite chicken shop is breaking into the inner west with the newest Chargrill Charlie's outpost taking over Annandale. Too extreme? We think no. Gone are the days of crossing all bridges and braving allllllll tolls to get your fix of juicy, delicious chicken with salads and fries on the side. We’re all excited.

Restaurants

Barzaari

Marrickville's answer to modern Mediterranean deliciousness, Bazaari is owned by chef Darryl Martin (former chef of many excellent places; Quay, Foveaux, and 3 Weeds for starters) and Andrew Jordanou. These two have opened a family-style restaurant but with an edgy feel and the same could be said for the food, where contemporary spins on old classics are king.

Restaurants

Milky Lane

Since opening their doors in Bondi Beach way back in 2016, Milky Lane has already planted themselves firmly on many Sydneysider’s foodie hit lists. Serving cocktails and burgers, it’s their desserts that have got everyone talking. Pretty much when it comes to these guys there is nothing they can't pimp the absolute shiz out of. Most recently they've given hungry Sydney bellies their Belgian waffle sandwich. FYI the waffles have caramelised banana in them, with Ferrero Rocher gelato between, and a deep-fried Ferrero Rocher on top. It’s all lovingly finished with a healthy drizzle of maple syrup and liquid Nutella, before being garnished with crushed Ferreros. We know, deep breaths.

Hanging out in Sydney’s inner west (well, Petersham to be precise), Brighton the Corner is your answer to local feasts and coffee. The menu offers a gourmet twist on brekky classics and don’t worry because we’re about to explain exactly what that means. Think dishes of chorizo poached eggs with red pepper relish, rösti and rocket leaves, and their special wrap, aptly named the wrapture—creamy scrambled eggs with crispy bacon bits and shallots all wrapped up in a warm tortilla.

Restaurants

Joe’s Table

Darlinghurst has welcomed a new restaurant to its ranks and we’re talking about Joe’s Table, where you’ll find deliciously tasty lunch and dinners with a South East Asian influence. The owner Joe Kitsana is the former chef of Longrain and Phamish, a huge hint that Joe’s Table is going to be a knock out.

Cafes

Acai Brothers

Acai Brothers is the only place to head for all of the acai bowls you can handle. A passion project by two brothers (well, from other mothers, but you get it) who swear that acai is the secret behind their past lives as athletes. Yup, this place is definitely delivering the goods when it comes to acai—do you need us to say it one more time? You get it.

Cafes

Bay Vista Dessert Bar

Bay Vista Dessert Bar is south Sydney’s answer to ridiculous desserts and now it’s headed for the west. This place has it all. No really, the menu goes on for days (near enough anyway). Yes, they serve traditional desserts (think Cannoli, log cake, and banana split) but the fun doesn’t stop there.
