Just let that sink in for a moment. Potato. Festival. Does anything sound more beautiful than that?
Potato gelato, potato gnocchi, Japanese potato pancakes, and bangers and mash are all things you can expect to see (and eat) at the inaugural Ballarat Potato Festival.
Spuds—while delicious— aren’t the most exciting thing to look at all day, but when you cook those bad boys they come alive and this festival is all about that. The event’s menu includes some delicious options like hand-forged pink potato and parmesan gnocchi in a lamb ragu with Grana Padano, baby spinach and crisp potato crumb—we are definitely listening.
If you’re not a fan of baked spuds, chips with gravy or samosas (why are you here?) and you feel like something on the sweeter side, fear not, because there will be a selection of sweet treats like sweet potato chocolate brownie, as well as the aforementioned potato gelato.
It all takes place at the Ballarat Mining Exchange this Saturday between 3pm and 8pm, and it’ll cost you only a gold coin to enter.
The event is part of the Ballarat Winter Festival which includes great events such as Christmas in July at Sovereign Hill (all July), the Ballarat Brew Festival (Saturday, July 22), and The Red Series Wine Festival (July 29),
You’d be starch raving mad to miss this.
When: Saturday, July 1, 3pm – 8pm
Where: Ballarat Mining Exchange, 8 Lydiard Street North, Ballarat Central
