If you're feeling as poor and stranded as we are, it might be time to set your travel sights a little closer to home. We're talking Melbourne day tours. You may not be out exploring the streets of Paris or sipping a Tuscan pinot, but there’s actually some pretty cool things to explore in good ol’ Melbs. I know, shock-horror.
Get ready guys, it’s time to get #cultured in your very own city. Here are eight Melbourne day tours to get you off the couch.
Funky Fitzroy Cocktail Tour
Time to get quirky, guys (and probs a bit tipsy as well). This Funky Fitzroy Cocktail Tour takes you on a 3-hour discovery of Melbourne’s groovy northside. Romp around Fitzroy and Collingwood and get ready to explore bohemian venues, hidden cocktail lounges, top-shelf tipple and authentic Aussie jaffles (to sober you up, ofc). You already look 10% cooler. BYO flannel. For more info, click here.
Northside Vegan Tour
Okay vegan cherubs, this one’s for you. If you’re interested in learning what a more sustainable future looks like, check out Melbourne's new vegan tour You’ll be led through Melbourne’s most vibrant neighbourhoods to meet the angels behind the urban green scene. Urban Eco Food Tour
Another one for you greenies. With a similar concept to the vegan tour, the Urban Eco Tour aims to educate people about how to live a more sustainable life. Well, would you looky here. It looks like you can find out if good neighbours really do become good friends on your very own tour of Ramsay street. Yeah it's kitschy as hell, but so what? Sif you're not curious. Discover the place that is quite possibly Australia’s biggest claim to fame, check out the studios, good ol’ Erinsborough High and cross your fingers that Carl and Susan are there to take some pics. For more info, click here.
United States Of Food Tour
Calling all big eaters! There’s no doubt us Aussies love to eat large, and nothing screams large more than an American food renaissance. Join ex-pat American tour guides (courtesy of Urban Adventures) and eat your way around Melbourne's best American food. We're talking sugared doughnuts, underground gamer bars, Melbourne's OG burger joint and a hidden bagel cafe. Your ticket gets you nosh at every stop along the way. For more info, click here.
Philip Island Penguin Tour
Here’s your chance to get up close and personal with our favourite black and white birdies. The Penguins Express evening tour takes you directly to the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island. Take in panoramic views of French Island across the bay and get a birds-eye look (sorry) at the Penguin Parade. You can walk alongside the little guys on elevated boardwalks (very eco-friendly). There’s an info centre too, where you can learn more about penguins, and a restaurant where you can devour some hot food after your cold journey. You'll spot the groups leaving from Swanston St on the daily. For more info, click here.
Puffing Billy Winery Tour
Choo choo! This tour combines our favourite train trip with our favourite wine region, and we are so here for it. Begin your journey in the Dandenong Ranges with Puffing Billy end up getting pizzles in the picturesque Yarra Valley. You’ll be treated to bush billy tea from grown tea and gum leaves, a delicious hearty spit roast lunch (accompanied by a glass of wine at Fergusson’s winery) and a sweet feast from the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery. There’ll also be wine tasting, complimentary cheese and a tour of Dominique Portet. Now that’s my kind of tour. For more info, click here.
