We Check Out Yarraville’s Best Pub

By Iro Kotsimbos - 08 Aug 2014

We're mad for a good pub meal here at The Urban List – seriously what's better than a well cooked steak or some perfectly crisp fish & chips, paired with a craft beer or a top drop of wine to wash it down? Not much.

Our love for awesome pub grub has taken us across town, wining and dining at some of Melbourne's best gastropubs in our quest to sample it all (we take our research very seriously we'll have you know!). And recently, we've found a contender who we think is up there with some of the best pub food in town. Say hello to Hyde Street Hotel in Yarraville.

A mere 20 minutes from Melbourne's CBD, the Hyde Street Hotel has recently undergone an extensive renovation and refurbishment, resulting in a modern and stylish venue. There are two key areas – Hyde St. Kitchen, an open plan dining room serving up some hella good pub food (some may call it Modern Australian, but we like to think of it as 'pub food with a fancy twist'), and Hyde and Seek Lounge Bar, the perfect spot to relax with friends for a drink.

With Hyde St. Kitchen, the chef has created a menu full of delicious pub meals; you've got your good ol' classics like panko crumbed chicken parmagiana, housemade pizzas, and beer battered fish & chips, as well as modern favourites such as seafood platters, braised beef cheeks, and chickpea & summer vegetable salads. The meals are great for sharing (or just devouring yourself…) and will please even the fussiest of tastebuds. In fact, the food is so good it begs the question – could this be one of the best gastropubs in Melbourne? We reckon it's in the running.

Hyde and Seek Lounge, on the other hand, is a top spot to catch up with friends on the comfy couches for a vodka soda, or to host your next do. If that area doesn't suit you then the Front Bar certainly will – it's perfect for kicking back in to watch the weekend footy or listen to the live music that Hyde Street Hotel have playing on a Friday and Saturday night. There's also an impressive line-up of craft beers and ciders on tap – 14 to be exact and climbing! Sourced from some of Australia's best microbreweries, the craft beers rotate regularly meaning there's always something new to try. Oh and did someone say $12 beer paddles all day, every day?! You know where we'll be…

MID-WEEK MADNESS...

It's not just the weekends though that go off at Hyde Street Hotel – they've got plenty happening midweek, too. Wednesdays have just been announced as Burger Day, where you can order either a wagyu beef (our fave…seriously droolworthy), chicken BLT or sweet potato & chickpea burger, plus a pot of Cricketers Arms Lager or Somersby Cider for only $20 – that's for both lunch and dinner!

If it's steak you're hankering after, then make sure you head to Hyde Street Hotel for Thursday Steak Day – hands down some of the best steaks in Melbourne! Again for both lunch and dinner, you can order either a juicy porterhouse or tender rib eye steak (both with a complimentary pot of lager or house wine) for $20 or $25, respectively.

Whether you're looking a new local to hang out at, or on the hunt for a great gastropub, make sure you check out Hyde Street Hotel. With delicious food, brilliant brews and a great vibe, this Yarraville pub will have you coming back for more.
