The Carnivores Ball Returns

By Ella Stening - 21 Feb 2014

After two sell out inaugural events (in Melbourne and Austin, Texas) and a number of delicious protein-induced comas, Jess Pryles of BurgerMary, aka Goddess of all things that previously moo-ed, is hosting her world famous Carnivores Ball within the glamorous confines of Ormond Hall on April 4th and 5th.

From 6pm it's a sit down showdown, with three courses of which meat is the star, the first provided by Smith street favourites, Rockwell and Sons – think fried chicken and biscuit, fermented buttermilk, hot sauce and housemade pickles. Drool! Next up, growl your way through Flinders Island Lamb and Silvercreek Smokers' slow smoked, pulled lamb and grass fed beef brisket, served with chipotle coleslaw and fixins. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, it does, with Gavin Baker and Shaun Quade bringing you home with a pork fat caramel doughnut, finished with pork scratchings and cinnamon sugar, accompanied with a sweet corn custard.

If you weren't already sold on the idea of a night of being locked in a hall that smells like Christmas, Australia Day and Nanna's Sunday night roasts all in one, Little Creatures will be providing the beers, The Wondersnack Co and Griffin Jerky will be dealing meaty treats and there'll be a pop up store from USA Foods selling hot sauces, marinades and rubs, so the taste sensation never has to end. Local blues band, Catfish Voodoo, will be playing some sweet tunes and the dress code is entirely open, so feel free to wield appropriate meat-eating gear (stretch pants and cowboy boots are looking like good options).

So, if you're tired of playing musical chairs for the meat seat at catered events, if you just need an occasion to break out your floatiest Camilla dress, or like Ron Swanson you keep a sizable amount of ground chuck in your office drawer for emergencies, then the Carnivores Ball is the only formal occasion you should be attending this year.

Might we suggest you book your tickets to Carnivores Ball now, as there are more meat-eaters in Melbourne than there are raptors in the Jurassic Park laboratory.
