Do you guys remember this from last year?
In 2017, Dandenong Market chucked the biggest burger party we’ve ever seen for National Burger Day. There were sushi burgers, doughnut burgers, burger passports, and one guy even won 100 free burgers (he had a year to eat them, so we guess he’s ready to go again?)
Well this year Dandy Market is back for National Burger Day...Round 2. And if anything it’s even more ridiculous in 2018. Twenty-one of the market’s vendors are getting in on the action, creating limited-edition burgers (both savoury and sweet).
Here’s a brief run-down of what to expect. Melbourne’s first ever ‘pizza burger’ from Dandy Pizza (2 x Margherita pizza ‘buns’, a beef patty, cheese, tomato, and house sauce). An ‘Indian Stack’ burger built from rice pancake buns and samosas. The famous Market Schnitzel from last year (the schnitzels are your ‘buns’). It just goes on and on...
Sweet tooths, you’re well catered for. There’s seven dedicated dessert burgers up for grabs this year. Personally, we’ve got our eyes on the Tim Tam Burger from Dandy Doughnuts: Tim Tams, jam sauce and cream inside two steaming hot doughnuts. Yes we flipping can.
For the hardcore burger fans, there’s also a professional burger eating comp on the day. You have to devour the so-called Double Chompster: a 900-gram burger with 5 buns, 8 beef patties, 8 slices of cheese, bacon rashers, onions, pickles, ketchup and BBQ sauce.
There’s $500 up for grabs. A good chance to find out which you value more: money or a working digestive system.
In completely unrelated news, there's a vegan yum-cha party coming to Melbourne. How's that for a contrast.
