Spring Carnival is all but in our rearview mirror now, but there’s still racing galore happening around the state if you’re still keen for a big day out.
The ‘Melbourne Cup of the bush’ is on today in the Victorian town of Dunkeld, and it’s one of the best country events you’ll go to.
The Dunkeld Cup—awarded best racing event ’08, ’09, and ’16 —takes place on the 2nd Saturday following the Melbourne Cup, which means that today is the big day.
Set at the foot of Victoria’s spectacular Grampians, the Dunkeld Cup features everything you’d expect from a big race day—marquees, fashions on the field, food, drinks, and all round good times.
To get to Dunkeld Race Course you can either drive up the Western Highway to Ararat and follow the signs, or by train you’ll take a V/Line to Ballarat, then hop on a bus which will take you the rest of the way to Dunkeld.
