The national day to say ‘Onya, Dad!’, Father’s Day, is the mandatory spoil-Dad-day. So we’ve come up with this list of top things to do and places to eat with Dad in Melbourne, this Father’s Day.
Father’s Day Funnies
Five Melbourne comedians are joining forces for a side-splitting Father’s Day celebration of Dads and Dad jokes. An hour or so in a cozy Irish pub, The Last Jar, enjoying a few beers and truck load of laughs sounds like something that Dad will be pretty keen on. Tickets here.
Tailored Menu at Feast of Merit
The good folk at Richmond’s all-day favourite, Feast of Merit, have put together a tailored Father’s Day menu of dishes that they think Dad will love. You’ll need to book early. Better yet, they’re taking bookings for two-hour slots. A Melbourne café that you can book for brunch – hallelujah!
Father’s Day at Temple Brewing
Temple Brewing has come up with a ripper deal for Father’s Day: three courses of deliciousness with the option of paired Temple beers, plus dad gets a free pint with his meal and there’s a full kids menu available. There’s a lunch sitting and a dinner sitting and you’re best to email to book.
Breakfast at Chez Dre
Chez Dre in South Melbourne offers a few ‘manly breakfast’ dishes. (Obviously the whole family can enjoy them though!) We think that the Confit Pork Belly – poached eggs, yuzukosho pumpkin puree, rainbow chard, crispy prosciutto, pain d'epices crumband and toasted baguette sounds like a stellar way to kick Father’s Day off.
Dad’s High Tea at Zimt Patisserie
Think that high tea is something that only Mum would enjoy? Wrong, wrong, wrong. Find me a man that doesn’t love jammy scones and delicious beef sliders. Think of it as a man-sized feast rather than high tea. Zimt Patisserie is holding a breakfast feast and a lunch feast. Call 9890 2382 for more info.
Lunch at Royal Saxon
If you shout Dad lunch at the Royal Saxon, they’ll shout him a beer, because Dads’ deserve free beer. You’ll be able to grab a two-course lunch for $40. Call 9429 5277 to book
Golf and Beer
If Dad is more the sporty type and isn’t so down for a long lunch, head to the driving range at Albert Park and you’ll be able to get a bucket of 100 balls and a beer for $21 – the perfect Sunday arvo activity.
Coastal Walk and Brunch
Fingers-crossed those moody Melbourne weather gods are smiling on Father’s Day. Why not go for a coastal walk and treat Dad to brunch at Ebenezer Coffee and Wine Bar at Black Rock? We recommend the walk from Ricketts Point to Black Rock and back again – it’s not too strenuous and includes a bit of a beach walk. Based closer to the city? Walk from St Kilda to Port Melbourne and hit up Café Lafayette.
Steak Challenge at The Village
For $49 you can gift Dad with a hearty 1kg Hopkins River Beef Tomahawk steak to demolish. The steak is served with celeriac, carrot and hot English remoulade and red wine jus. If Dad smashes the eating challenge and finishes, The Village will shout him a beer. Bookings are essential.
Barbecue and Beer at Red Hill Brewery
Red Hill South
Dad’s love beer. And barbecues. So lunch in a brewery is perfect. Dad will be given a free beer upon arrival to kick things off and Red Gum BBQ is smoking up a storm all weekend, with their traditional method of cooking Southern American style BBQ at low heat for many, many hours over their 4 meter long pit.
