When we love something we really, truly LOVE something! And that’s exactly how we feel about our new relationship! Some things just go together. Like cookies and cream, Brandon and Brenda… The Urban List and MINI!

Our two families have collaborated to bring discerning readers and drivers a new fortnightly series – MINI Fave 5s. The must-try guide to Melbourne, celebrating the launch of the new MINI 5-door hatch

So, Urban Listers, clear the diary and get excited for our Fave 5s. There’s a whole year of eating, drinking and discovering to be done…

Yoga studios are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. So, Melbourne yoga lovers, rather than make you sort the delicious from the not so desirable, we’ve literally bent over backwards to uncover five fancy Melbourne yoga gems.

So pop on your lululemons, roll up your mat, and hotfoot it to one of our Fave 5 Luxe Melbourne Yoga Studios—all stylish, and with a flow and flavour of their very own.

Humming Puppy

Yoga may be a predominately silent practice, but this high-end Prahran yoga studio positively speaks to you. As endearing and unique as its name would suggest, the Humming Puppy shala is engineered with audible frequencies fine-tuned to actually “hum” as you do. In addition to the audible appeal, the all-copper and glass light-reflecting interior—amidst a sea of designer muted-tone mats—is understated luxury at its finest.

The result is a stunningly unified and lineal space reflecting the literal Sanskrit translation of the word yoga meaning “union”. A recent addition to the Melbourne yoga scene, this is one puppy that’s winning yogi hearts.

One Hot Yoga

South Yarra

This architecturally designed space sets the bar so high, it is near unreachable even on the lithest, most elongated of double-jointed yogi toes! Contemporary in every sense, the One Hot Yoga studio is a blend of cool polished concrete, warm deep shag pile rugs and commanding glass surrounds. The effect is both unintimidating and intimate.

When it comes to the yoga practice itself, One Hot Yoga is not paused in the past. Instead, it offers modern and mindful sequences within a heated, wildly next level, space. Make sure you grab some of their gorgeous Ayurvedic-based products, so you can take a piece of Zen home with you

Yoga 213

South Yarra

If you want a side-serve of “Zing-a Zing-a” with your Zen, pop-and-lock that booty into Yoga 213. With the trimmings of a Santa Monica beach hang—complete with sand blistered walls, recycled timber, surfboards and modern art—Australia’s first hip hop yoga studio offers an amped vibe for any mood you may want to swing into.

This is such a fun space, filled with pops of colour and LA inspired design, also offering Yin Yoga (think darkened room, long deep poses and Bon Iver piped throughout) and Chill Yoga, complete with reggae beats to enhance the vinyasa flow. Hands down one of the dopest cribs to practice yoga in Melbourne.

Light Space Yoga

Balwyn (& Mitcham)

Next up, stretch your GPS to Balwyn, where you’ll find another of Melbourne’s best yoga studios, with a picturesque twist. Listers, where else would you find a yoga studio with full-breadth windows overlooking the treetops to the Dandenongs and—wait, what’s that? The. Rising. Sun! Finally, all those salutes are worth it.

The white floorboards and cloud wall ensconcing the space give Light Space Yoga a weightless feel, and the fact that it’s run by a mother and daughter yogi team who have handmade each and every bolster (so divine you’ll be trying to stash one down your yoga pants in no time) only makes it even more endearing and unique.

Happy Melon

Before you turn your attention to Shavasana, we have one more luxe Melbourne yoga studio to round out our Fave 5. Happy Melon is otherworldly, even if it is tucked behind a fancy façade in uptown Armadale. Designed to feel more like a home than an impersonal studio, the multiple rooms—offering meditation and fitness classes as well as yoga—give it a definite character that other open-spaced studios lack.

Finishes of marble and oak and French antiques meshed with modern furniture add to the ambience, whilst original artworks and handmade light fittings create a high-end communal vibe. Trust us, you’ll leave this delightful studio with a blissed out smile and a super happy melon.

We're thrilled to partner with MINI to bring you our Fave 5 series—our fortnightly guide to the best of the best in Melbourne. From food to fashion, Campari to Crossfit, each Fave 5 edition is researched and recommended by The Urban List, and driven by the new MINI 5-Door Hatch—putting the city at your fingertips and giving you the freedom to explore it!
