When you hear that gin royalty, Four Pillars, is about to drop a new gin, you don’t even really need the details to know it’ll be banging. Incoming late October is their limited edition Christmas Gin, and it’s expectedly festive.
Like with everything Four Pillars do, a helluva lot of love, care and thought has been put into this one. The limited-edition Christmas Gin represents more than just tinsel and Santa Claus, and instead draws reference to everything their head distiller loves about the festive season: Australia, Christmas, gin and his late mum, Wilma.
You’ll find the usual botanicals in this bottle, along with a lick of Rutherglen muscat and their own muscat which has been aged in Barrosa Valley puncheon barrels for an extra hit of sweetness.
Where the real ingenuity comes in, however, is the way the distil this gin with Christmas pudding. The recipe for the pudding comes from Wilma, who pinched it from a 1968 Women’s Day and made it her own—as a nod to Wilma, those rich festive flavours can now be found in the Christmas Gin.
It’s a versatile drop with enough flavour to be sipped neat. The gang at Four Pillars also suggest a gin and ginger coming into the silly season, or you could mix up a Christmas Negroni. Failing that, pour it over your Christmas pudding for the ultimate kick.
Four Pillars’ Christmas Gin will be available from Saturday 31 October online, at their brick and mortar locale in Healesville and all good liquor stores.
