After two years up on blocks, the Inflatable Regatta will once again hit Melbourne waterways this February.
Melburnians should be well aware of the Inflatable Regatta’s Yarra River antics, but this time around the event will also be hitting Melbourne’s other major river, the Maribyrnong, a couple of weeks later.
It’s expected that more than four thousand people will float their way down the rivers in 2020, a big step up from the inaugural 2016 event which attracted 500 floaters.
“We thought 2018 was big when we had over 2000 people on the Yarra. There were a few deep breaths. Then the opportunity came up to double that again by holding it on the Yarra and the Maribyrnong. It’s going to be quite a sight!” Inflatable Regatta founder Courtney Carthy said.
Melbourne Water is once again proudly behind the event.
“Healthy waterways are a big part of what makes our city one of the most liveable in the world,” General Manager, Waterways and Land at Melbourne Water Tim Wood said.
“This year, for the first time the Inflatable Regatta will be taking place on both the Yarra and Maribyrnong Rivers enabling even more Melbournians to experience our amazing waterways in a different way.”
