Couture dresses, gowns and the ever so striking Yves Saint Laurent pantsuit on display—is this every fashionista’s dream?
After the NGV announced the acquisition of the Krystyna Campbell: Pretty Fashion Gift three years ago, the highly anticipated exhibition is finally set to open to the public on Friday, 1 March.
The collection showcases over 200 beautifully curated garments spanning over a century of couture design. Featuring powerhouse fashion designers including the father of haute couture Charles Frederick Worth, as well as fashion revolutionaries Alexander Mcqueen and Yves Saint Laurent, who are known as catalysts for radical shifts in the way we understand fashion today.
The exhibition is strongly supported by a richly illustrated catalogue of over 300 pages including focused entries on major fashion houses and designers as well as an interview between Olivier Gabet, Director of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and Krystyna Campbell-Pretty about her personal history and her philanthropic motivations, which has eventuated in the creation this collection.
On display until July 14, there are plenty of opportunities to see this wonderful collection of fashion history in the flesh at least a couple of times.
