Markets Of Melbourne Set To Celebrate Market Week

By Megan Osborne
2nd Sep 2014

Here at The Urban List, we love a good market (check out our September market calendar!), and cannot wait to celebrate Market Week! Clear your schedule, because running from the 6th to the 14th of September, Prahran Market, South Melbourne Market, Queen Victoria Market and Dandenong Market are going to be bursting at the seams with all sorts of fun events as part of Market Week. Think tastings and tours, classes and competitions. Or head down and join in the fun at one of the many street festivals! This year's Market Week is set to be epic.

With a theme of 'Celebrating Our Global Community', Markets of Melbourne's Market Week is all about toasting the diversity of cultures we have here in Melbourne town. We're already drooling over the multicultural cooking demonstrations on offer. Head to Prahran Market for a live dumpling master class at Blanco Kitchen, hosted by David Zhou (David's and Oriental Teahouse), or learn a little about Korean, Brazilian and Italian cuisine at The Kitchen, Dandenong Market. Swap out your coffee for some tea, as South Melbourne's LG Kitchen will be setting up for tea workshops as part of Melbourne's first Tea Fair. On top of this you have all the gourmet delights and fresh produce that Melbourne's markets are known for, so don't be a spoil sport; arrive with an empty stomach!

The multicultural celebrations continue throughout Market Week 2014 with a range of weekend festivals featuring live entertainment and family fun. Prahran Market is hosting World Fiesta on Saturday the 6th, with Queen Victoria Market celebrating Mooncake Festival on Sunday the 7th. If you don't know what a Chinese Mooncake is, you'd better head down to find out! A Full Moon Festival on Sunday the 14th will take place at Dandenong Market, at the same time as a Grand Bazaar festival at South Melbourne Market. So much to choose from! Much fun; very excitement!

Other fun things to look out for at Market Week include a spruiking competition at Dandenong Market, where stall owners will go head to head. Or take your dog along to the Dogs of the World Morning Tea on Cecil Street on the 13th, for puppycinos by Clement Coffee and doggy biscuits from The Pet Grocer. Pooch will be sure to thank you, and not give you sad eyes when you're sampling some foodie treats (no guarantees, we know how sneaky they can be).

Market Week is not only pet friendly, it's also kid friendly! Style, craft and interior design workshops will be on site to entertain (distract) young and old minds alike!

With over 100 events taking place, Market Week is sure to keep you busy, not to mention stuffed full of multicultural delights!
