Prepare your potting mix and get those green thumbs at the ready – the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show is about to bloom!
Kicking off on the 26th and running 'til the 30th of March, the flower and garden extravaganza will be taking over The Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens for the 19th year in a row.
The heritage-listed building will once again be transformed into the Great Hall of Flowers, filled with an abundance of blooms expertly crafted into exquisite floral designs. Those inspired by the artistry can head to the retail flower market, where you can pick up bulbs and buds directly from the country's best growers.
There'll be heaps of action happening on the main stage in the Great Hall of Flowers, with live floral design demonstrations and loads of competitions running throughout the five days of the festival. Celebrity gardeners will also be taking the stage in sessions covering everything from issues of sustainability, to the best potting mix for your petunias.
Itching to get involved? Green thumbs can be flexed at one of the free floral design workshops offered throughout the show, where you'll learn the adapted art of a Japanese gardening style called Kokedama, otherwise known as 'String Gardens'. Each workshop will provide advice, tips and tricks, along with spades of inspiration to get creative with flowers and foliage at your own home. Click here to secure your spot and avoid disappointment!
Make sure you also check out the Urban Container Garden at the Carlton Gardens to learn all about green rooftops and living walls, 'urban forests', and vegetable rain gardens. Oh, and while you're there you may as well enter into the draw to win a trip for two to the 2015 Ellerslie Flower Show in New Zealand! Oh my posies, wouldn't that be nice!
