The international man of mystery is coming to Melbourne – 007 himself. We're talking about Bond. James Bond.
Following a successful run at the Barbican Centre London and the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto, Designing 007 – Fifty Years of Bond Style is coming exclusively to Melbourne Museum. Starting today and running 'til February next year, the exhibition covers five decades, six leading men and a legion of highly skilled villains from 1962's Dr No to 2012's Skyfall.
A plethora of guns, gadgets and gizmos from Q Branch are on show. Make sure you check out Bond's booby-trapped attaché case from From Russia With Love. Weapons of villains' choice also feature, including Scaramanga's golden gun from The Man With The Golden Gun. After machinery of a larger variety? Bond's 1964 Aston Martin DB5 is there in all its shiny, British glory.
Bond would be nothing without his sharp dinner suit. So, suitably, it's the lavish costumes and finery that steal the show. Pieces from fashion heavyweights take pride of place alongside rare costumes, including Roger Moore's white tuxedo from Octopussy and the spacesuit from Moonraker. That orange bikini worn brilliantly by Halle Berry in Die Another Day is also there for all to drool over, as is Daniel Craig's blue trunks from Casino Royale. Fancy a little more of Mr Craig? Grab a ticket to Skyfall at IMAX to see him in all of his pouty perfection. Discount joint tickets available Saturday 9th November and Saturday 7th December.
Shaken or stirred? Whatever your preference, you can experience Bond-style cocktails for real every Friday night at Melbourne Museum's Bond Bar throughout January and February 2014. This eight-week evening series features location themed nights, music and talks from 5 'til 9pm. Bond culture, cocktails and cuisine – what more could you want? Exhibitiion entry is also included as part of the Bond Bar experience.
Not sure where to host this year's Christmas party? In conjunction with Peter Rowland Catering, Melbourne Museum is offering corporate hospitality packages themed to complement the exhibition. A Bond-style shindig – we say yes! Forward this to the boss and cross your fingers.
Spies-in-training can also get a piece of the action too. During the summer holidays mini Bonds can help build a massive Lego mural of an iconic movie scene under the direction of an award-winning Lego Certified Professional, Ryan McNaught. Yeah, we said Lego Certified Professional. Cool or what?
Licensed to thrill, this exhibition is sure to be a hit will all 007 fans. We're excited, very excited.
