The Grown Up Lunchbox: Melbourne’s Best Lunch Deliveries

Lunch, glorious lunch. Oh, how we all look forward to that delightful time of day when we can put down our pens, step away from our desks and fill our stomachs with carbs, protein, sugar (Really? For lunch? Hey, I'm not here to judge), or whatever tickles our fancy.

If you're anything like me, though, you will either a) forget your lunch at home, b) suffer extreme food envy after the person next to you produces something ahhmazing, c) get so busy that you forget to eat lunch, or d) all of the above. Can't we just go back to the sweet ol' days when Mum used to pack a lunchbox? A vegemite and cheese sandwich, some carrot sticks and an apple Just Juice?

Never fear, there are some clever cookies around Melbourne who have solved your lunch dilemmas! No longer will you have to stick a post-it reminder on the door - these peeps will make you a tasty lunch and deliver it too!

Who knew it was possible to coo over your lunch? I sure didn't, but Egg Unlimited has changed that. Specialising in 'little foods', the team at Egg offer a range of lunchbox options from the 'Classic Pack' (think chicken sandwiches, smoked salmon bagels and caramelised onion tartlets), to the low carb and low GI 'Wellbeing Pack'. Egg Unlimited also deliver larger lunch platters – perfect for your next team meeting or client lunch.

The brainchild of Chrissy Gant, Goldilocks Lunchbox delivers fresh, home–made, deeelicious lunches to workers in the CBD and the inner north. Perfectly balanced, the lunchboxes all include 'something big, something small and something sweet' – recent deliveries have seen the inclusion of slow cooked lamb sandwiches, apple and mint slaw, and pavlovas with fresh strawberries (excuse us while we drool). Ingredients are sourced from a range of local producers, so lunches are always changing and super fresh. Nom nom nom!

Inspired by their mother's and grandmother's Vietnamese cooking, Melbourne sisters, Thu & Thy, started the aptly named 'By Two Sisters', delivering freshly made Vietnamese salads around town. The options on offer include beef, prawn, betel leaf and lemongrass pork (our fave!), and are incredibly easy to make. The ingredients all come housed in their own serving bowls – simply tip them in, mix and serve! Stock up on multiple salads and you're set for lunch for the week. Too easy.

Ahhh, sushi – the never-fail lunch option for those seeking something healthy, cheap and tasty. Still too busy to run out and grab a roll or two? That's where The Hungry Samurai comes in. Zipping around town in their food van, the team at The Hungry Samurai deliver a range of sushi rolls, plus coffees and other treats. Oh, and there's gluten free options too, hoorah! No more searching for a new favourite sushi place – let the samurai bring it to you.

Homer Simpson was wrong, you can definitely make friends with salad. The Odd Pod are proof of that! The team like to mix it up, and offer five different salads available each day – superb for people like yours truly who get bored easily. Chic French Chick on a Monday? Brokeback Brisket on a Wednesday? Barley Legal on a Friday? Um, yes please! Want an Emma and Tom's juice with that too? Why, yes I would! To top it off, delivery is free. So, really peeps, there's no reason for you and salad not to be BFFs.
