Melbourne’s Best New Year’s Eve Parties 2013

By Ella Pleasant
6th Dec 2013

Got nada planned for New Year's Eve? Rather than ringing in 2014 at home alone, sparkler in one hand and a cup of camomile in the other, follow The Urban List's suit and slip on your glad rags, slide on those dancing shoes and head to one of the many shindigs Melbourne has going on.

There are a HUGE number of festivities taking place throughout the city and, with everything from five-course meals to prohibition-themed parties (a popular era, it seems!), there's absolutely no excuse to be counting down to midnight on the couch this New Year's Eve.

Not sure where to start? Here's our guide to the best spots in Melbourne to celebrate the year that's been and the fun that's to come.

Newmarket Hotel's So-Cal New Year's Eve party is the perfect way to say adios to 2013 and a mighty big hola to 2014. Their hot-to-trot regular menu will be running, including Newmarket favourites like the soft shell crab tacos, Latin cured meats, wood roasted cazuelas and rare breed roasts (drool!).  There'll be a pop-up bar serving $5 Coronas and $12 Margaritas all night, as well as a DJ on the decks from 9pm, to get you in the fiesta mood.

Newmarket Hotel | 34 Inkerman Street in St Kilda
Regular menu applies

Salute the end of prohibition (and 2013) with a party of bootleg booze, illicit cocktails and a 1920s entertainment spread at Vue de Monde this New Year's Eve. All this, combined with the jaw dropping views of Melbourne CBD from level 55 of the Rialto Tower, makes it the perfect spot to enjoy a tipple, watch the firework display and start the New Year with a bang.

Make getting home easy by booking a suite with Vue de Monde's neighbour, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto – it's a mere twenty metre stumble from the restaurant and, with a 15% discount to all party-goers, saves you a pretty penny too.

Vue Events at Rialto | Level 55, 525 Collins Street in Melbourne
$350 per person (incl. food and drinks), discounts apply for groups 8+
For bookings, please call 03 9691 3888

If you go a bit loco for food truck fare (ahem, guilty), this is the certainly the place for you! Set in the garden of Village Melbourne, Trailer Trash will house Melbourne's finest culinary automobiles, including Smokin' Barrys, OoOdle Lishious, The Dude Food Man and Jacob's Kitchen. Wet your whistle with their potent 'Trailer Trash' cocktail, grab some truck grub and boogie down to DJ-spun tunes. Dress code is all things trash-tastic and, as far as we're concerned, the more mullets, crocs and leopard print crop tops the better.

Village Melbourne | 557 St Kilda Road in Melbourne
$95 early bird, $100 on the door (incl. drinks, food extra)
8pm – 1am

With super tasty Mexican street food and a different cocktail every half hour (oh lord, yes!) Acland St Cantina is one of the coolest (and possibly the most dangerous) places to count down to 2014. Can anyone say 'one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor'? Taco, ceviche and mole galore, if you make it to dessert you MUST have one of their salted caramel ice cream churro tacos – it should be illegal to taste that good.
