It’s obvious that Melbourne prides itself on coffee. With more quality cafes steaming up better lattes than a lot of capital cities around the world, we’ve put together the list of your favourite caffeinated spots in Melbourne, by Melbourne.
Here are your top ten coffee spots, as voted by you!
#1 Tom Pockett Cellars
Melbourne, you’re in luck. It appears that the city’s favourite place to grab a morning latte also happens to double as a wine cellar. Winning! A seamless day-to-night venue featuring deep timbers and warm auburn lighting, enjoy a coffee with a no-fuss takeaway breakfast on weekdays.
#2 Lankan Tucker
Lankan Tucker is pushing Melbourne foodies out of their comforting brunch zone—for good reason. Offering a more modern take on brunch, Lankan champions traditional Sri Lankan flavours like the Roti Riser with roti, curry, coconut sambol, seeni sambol and a poached egg. Brunch differently this weekend with some of Melbourne’s best coffee.
#3 Market Lane Coffee
CBD, Prahran, Carlton
Despite five Melbourne venues, Market Lane Coffee still sees high demand for their no-frills takeaway. There’s just a handful of regular coffee options with exceptional filter coffee, and a selection of perfectly supportive pastries available at all venues. No skim or soy here though, so be warned!
#4 Axil Coffee Roasters
With a compact second store recently opening in the CBD, the love for Axil Coffee Roasters is strong. Offering a range of caffeinated options like their seasonal espresso blend, single origin coffees, and rotating filtered coffee, enjoy your coffee with a side of brunch this weekend.
#5 Proud Mary
In the bustling suburb of Collingwood, Proud Mary attracts its own dedicated hoard of coffee-deprived foodies. They serve delectably restrained brunch options like a ricotta hotcake with spiced nectarines, citrus mascarpone and ginger butterscotch—but we would gladly just drink our fill in coffee here.
#6 Patricia Coffee Brewers
Located in the business end of the CBD, it's all fuss-free takeaway at Patricia Coffee Brewers. There are no seats and just three coffee options for your overworked Friday brain—black, white and filtered. If the lines are anything to go by, this is simplicity at its finest.
#7 St ALi
A strong player in Melbourne’s overwhelming coffee culture, St ALi knows best. Really. With a focus on ed-coffee-cation, coffee combos include the Barista Breakfast (espresso, cappuccino and a filter coffee of the barista’s choice) and the St ALi Coffee Adventure (six coffees). Did someone say caffeine?
#8 The Stables Of Como
High tea has a place at South Yarra’s Stables of Como, but Melbourne is clearly equally impressed with their standard of coffee. Perfect on a Summer's day with fresh, bright brunch options like three egg mushroom and baby spinach omelettes, your next outdoor event is now sorted.
#9 Industry Beans
Industry Beans may be easily one of the best looking cafes in Melbourne, but they’ve got plenty of substance to back their appearance. Coffee beans are dutifully explained in an attractively colourful information guide. From cold drip to cold brew, filter to espressos, you’re in good grind-covered hands.
#10 Padre Coffee
CBD, South Melbourne, Brunswick East
If you’re interested in learning a little more about your morning latte without a barista’s judgey judgey eyes, Padre Coffee is you spot. Priding themselves on a love of coffee and education, you can pick up your hit of caffeine with a side of information (and maybe a new filter or two) at one of Padre Coffee’s bite-sized cafes.
