We don’t know how you plan on celebrating your 150th birthday (time travel and cocktails spring to mind) but the South Melbourne Market has decided to ring in its sesquicentenary (oh yeah, that’s right) with an ALL-DAY STREET BBQ. Basically an endless conga line of char-grilled meats and vegetables that’s going to take over Cecil St on 6 May. It’s the only thing that could possibly make Cecil St better for stomachs, and worse for car parks.
It’s called The Big BBQ, and South Melbourne Market promise it’ll include “every type of barbecued food imaginable.” We’ve got a weird imagination, so let’s hope that’s just good marketing.
The day will run from 10am to 10pm and include live entertainment, pop-up stalls, food trucks, enormous BBQs that could flash-grill a wooly mammoth, and plenty of activities for the kids (the usual assortment of face painting, jumping castles, giant Jenga and crying). Plus–get excited–an enormous birthday cake, baked by Market traders.
Need a sweetener? South Melbourne Market is giving away a trip for two to Europe, including return flights with Qatar and a private cooking class in the Italian countryside. All together now…haaaaaaappy biiiiirtttthday tooooo youuuu….
