Welcome to the inaugural edition of The List, where each month one Urban List staffer rounds up 10 of the things ticking their proverbial fancy right now.
First up is Melbourne Editor, Pip Jarvis. In addition to snowflakes on roses and whiskers on kittens (natch), here are a few of her favourite things right now. Hint: May include salted caramel and lush leather.
Fig, mozzarella and prosciutto bruschetta at City Wine Shop
My favourite CBD drinking hole—tick. And did I mention figs? A recent menu discovery on a particularly blustery Melbourne eve, I can't vouch for how long this amazingness will be on the menu at City Wine Shop. If it has gone, dry your eyes mate. And order the Délice de Bourgogne instead. It’s a win-win situation.
‘Salty Pimp’ milkshake at Boy & Co
Salted caramel blended with toasted coconut in a dreamy, creamy milkshake. I can’t even. New Malvern milkshake and fry joint Boy & Co is killing it. The chilli cheese fries are pretty darn epic too. Perfect for a PG-rated date.
Husk ‘Raw Biker’ jacket
It may be a fortnight’s pay packet, but the cost per wear on this Husk baby is peanuts. Made of butter-soft leather, I'll be pairing it with everything this autumn. Oh yes, it will be mine...
Never considered a road trip to Marysville? You should. It’s close to Melbourne, has an amazing new restaurant in Radius, and some of the darn prettiest autumn leaves you’ll ever see. Make a break for it.
‘While We’re Young’ at Palace Cinemas
With an all-star cast, this flick is the perfect mates date. Plus, Adam Driver (aka Adam from Girls) is as strangely hypnotising (sexy-ugly, it’s a thing) as ever. Catch it at Palace Cinemas and you can enjoy with an ‘epic pour’. Winning.
Studio Twocan ceramics
Studio Twocan, where have you been all my life?! Some of the sweetest ceramics around—the vases are top of my home-décor shopping list. I love them all, but this colour combo is the perfect cold weather pick-me-up.
Gelato Messina Richmond
3121 is getting its very own Messina (opening late May). I’ve already pitched a tent outside the Swan Street worksite to beat the queues. One scoop of Coconut & Pandan, please.
Aesop ‘Resurrection Aromatique’ Hand Balm
Baby it's cold outside and my paws are suffering. I have a pump of this zesty hand balm in my bathroom, and a tube in my bag, desk drawer… If I had a car, I’d have a stash there too.
Sean Hayes & Hubby Lip Syncing
Will & Grace fans who’ve been suffering from a Jack-shaped hole in their lives (guilty), soothe your sad and sorry selves with the lip-syncing brilliance that is Sean Hayes and his hubby, Scott Icenogle. First there was this. Now there’s this. Hanging for the next installment!
The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion
It’s pretty bl**dy cold in Melbourne right now and for, you know, like the next five to six months. While this may make some fools sad, it warms the cockles of my winter-loving heart. Any excuse to snuggle with a cuppa and a book! On my bedside table right now is The Rosie Effect. High-brow literature it is not. But if you’re after a funny, easy and addictive read, it ticks all the boxes. I picked mine up at Readings Hawthorn.
